Participants list[edit]

Hello @LordDildeia, Reidgreg, and Culamar:! Sorry for possible confusion from my side but this page, where you have registered will not be used this year as we are moving to more sophisticated way of recording contribution. You may try it out already here. If you have any question, please, contact me ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 09:04, 28 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Languages of translation[edit]

hi. In the list of suggested articles there is no column for some of tbe languages i usually translate in. Such languages do not participate in project this year, or you may add the column? For serbian at least? 146.212.197.167 19:51, 28 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

We are encouraging translation in as many languages as possible! ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 12:19, 29 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Бачу, што не. Беларуская мова не патрэбная? Ці якім прынцыпам кіраваліся, дадаючы якую-небудзь гуджараці, канаду ці тэлугу, але забыўшы суседні разьдзел? --Taravyvan Adijene (talk) 13:51, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am sorry if you do not find your language in the table but it does not mean that we are discouraging translation into some languages. Tables of suggested articles were designed equally to represent gaps and show from what languages translation can be done. It is just a tool to get you started and provide links to wikidata items, where all links can be found. I also recommend using Lacmus for easier interwiiki inquiries to show specific tonge you are writing in. Languages you listed above are among the most popular in the world, so we could not ignore them. ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 14:09, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Exophonic writers[edit]

Just in case, I would like to clarify. Isn't it against the rules to include articles about Ukrainian-language exophonic writers to my list? These are not suggested articles, but I would still like to increase the visibility of such writers and normalize this phenomenon, since Basque is my second language and I would like to contribute to Basque literature someday. --Eliatxo (talk) 19:08, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Eliatxo Hi! No, it is not against the rules. Feel free to write about anything that is connected to Ukraine and culture. However suggested articles give you more points. ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 11:14, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Esperanto[edit]

Hi! Why is esperanto (eo) missing from List of suggested articles? Dominik (talk) 03:35, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Dominik! Sorry but it is not feasible to add every language to that module. Please use Wikidata to see all langugages. ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 11:15, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

My language is not on the list, what should I do?[edit]

Hello there!

I did not find the Kazakh language in the list of suggested articles (for example, here), if I create or add to the suggested articles in Kazakh, will this mean that I will not participate? Can I receive souvenirs and a certificate of participation if I create and supplement the proposed articles in the Kazakh Wikipedia? -- Nurtenge (talk) 14:09, 7 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Nurtenge Hi! We could not fit every language in the lists but you surely can write in every language. I assure you will get certificate for contribution in Kazakh. ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 15:20, 7 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Pyrohiv[edit]

List of suggested articles contained National Museum of Folk Architecture and Folkways of Ukraine as an article to be written. The article on museum existed and was mistakenly linked to the Ukrainian Wikipedia article on populated neighbourhood and mistakenly suggesting that the museum replaced the village, when in reality it is located in what was the village and now a neighbourhood of the city. I wrote an article about the populated locality and moved and fixed the article about the museum. Considering all that I will be adding points for writing a non-suggested article and two points for improving an existing article on the museum, hoping that my calculations are correct and I'm not acting against the rules. Wikivoyage[edit]

Would I get rewarded for contributing to Ukraine articles on Wikivoyage? Roovinn (talk) 06:58, 10 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Roovinn! Unfortunately no, we do not cover Wikivoyage ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 09:15, 11 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your reply, @ValentynNefedov (WMUA)!
I look forward to improving the quality of Ukraine articles on Wikipedia! Roovinn (talk) 13:26, 12 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I had the same question. Can Wikivoyage be considered as part of the contest in the future? OhanaUnitedTalk page 20:03, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Added language deleted[edit]

I would like to contribute effectively within the edit-a-thon but i noticed my language was deleted! Bisel91 (talk) 20:06, 11 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Request list?[edit]

@ValentynNefedov (WMUA): Is there a request list for particular articles in non-English languages that could be started? I'd like to see the articles on the French and German schools in Kyiv (en:Lycée Anne de Kiev and en:Deutsche Schule Kiew) have articles on other languages started about them. I can also see if I can find English sources on those two schools. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:34, 12 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, @WhisperToMe! Please check this page for suggested articles. ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 08:24, 12 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much! I went ahead and added four expatriate schools to the list. WhisperToMe (talk) 17:22, 12 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Borshchiv Raion[edit]

Hello all, I have a book, Borshchiv: Its Folk Art, Customs, and Traditions by Lubow Wolynetz that would fit just perfectly for this event. It includes the history and geography of the Borshchiv area, but focuses mainly on the culture, sociology, etc. of the region. I plan on expanding the en:Borshchiv Raion article, but since it is an outdated district, should relevant text also go into Chortkiv Raion? Maybe both? (There is also relevant text for en:Vyshyvanka and en:Ukrainian embroidery.)

Additionally: if anyone wants to use this book for Ukrainian Wikipedia, I am happy to share this book with them; just reach out to me via the Wikimedia Discord. This book is dual-language, so direct quotes in Ukrainian are possible, rather than relying solely on translation. I do not speak Ukrainian so I cannot expand any Ukrainian Wiki articles myself.

Hi, I would appreciate it if you could help me find out how the scoring system works. how exactly is it calculated? Do we have to enter information somewhere? And if yes, how should it be entered and where? رشید هجری (talk) 14:36, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Adding Macedonian (mk)[edit]

Hello @ValentynNefedov (WMUA). I have gone into the trouble of translating all of the contest pages in Macedonian in the hope to see participation from our community this year, like we did before. I was surprised to see that "mk" is not among the languages in the suggested articles. If I remember correctly, it was there every year previously. I would like to ask if it can be added, especially since I know that if people don't see "mk", they will not participate. They'll think that we are not participating and that it isn't set up for us, and will go away and not find out that they actually still can. I know the community rather well - I have been the bureaucrat there for 18 years. Many thanks! B. Jankuloski (talk) 09:46, 19 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Bjankuloski06! I am sorry if you do not find your language in the table but it does not mean that we are discouraging translation into some languages. How to count new articles that are not translated?[edit]

+0 points for a new translation, +2 points for additions to an existing article, but what about creating a new article not through translation? Shwabb1 (talk) 13:12, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Shwabb1! If you create article that does not have any other interwiki, you do not get points for translation. ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 15:17, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Is it possible to contribute from Uzwiki?[edit]

There is no "uz" code in the list of suggested articles. I was creating monthly related articles in my language. Can I continue? Mirishkorlik (talk) 05:58, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Mirishkorlik Yes, they are encouraging translation in as many languages as possible!--Fraxinus (talk) 21:35, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Fraxinus Thank you:)) Mirishkorlik (talk) 04:08, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Mass machine tranlations[edit]

One of the participant of contest, Qolcomaq created articles using machine translation. Despite repeated warnings from the Azerbaijani Wikipedia administrators, including myself, about to make corrections on the articles, the user did not make any significiant corrections to them. As a result, a portion of the articles was deleted for the user's own request, and the rest were moved to draft namespace and also, the user's autopatrolled rights has been revoked. Additionally, the user was blocked for continuing this activity and personally attacking the administrators who warned them. In his final comment, the user even made threats. Therefore, it is necessary to remove the user from the contest; please pay attention to this matter. Moreover, most of his articles have either been deleted or moved to draft status, rendering them ineligible to participate in the competition. I would also like to note that there are other users who have created articles using machine translation, and I will inform you after investigating their contributions. Sura Shukurlu (talk) 23:18, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@ValentynNefedov (WMUA), I am looking forward to your response. Sura Shukurlu (talk) 17:40, 11 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Sura Shukurlu Thanks very much for the notification. User will be disqualified from the contest. ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 18:22, 11 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@ValentynNefedov (WMUA) There are other users who also have the same issue in their articles. I'm just waiting a few days because they haven't responded to the warnings. By what date at the latest should I provide information about all of them? Sura Shukurlu (talk) 19:35, 11 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Sura Shukurlu To be honest, as soon as possible would be ideal. However, if you need a bit more time, I cannot object against it. ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 20:21, 11 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@ValentynNefedov (WMUA) Thanks. It seems Nuray95, another user who was creating mass machine-translated articles, has apparently withdrawn from the contest after repeated warnings about machine translation. Sura Shukurlu (talk) 22:07, 11 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Sura Shukurlu Thanks. Sorry if we caused some inconvenience for local community ValentynNefedov (WMUA) (talk) 09:08, 12 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@ValentynNefedov (WMUA), no, you didn't, this is just a situation related to our own problems. However, when it comes to organizing such an important and large-scale project, all we can do is express our gratitude :) Sura Shukurlu (talk) 09:42, 12 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Participation Certificate[edit]

Hello @ValentynNefedov (WMUA), Firstly, thank you for putting this together. It was a great initiative, and I hope to participate in it next year.

I have a question: when will we recieve our online certificates of participation? I expressed my interest in getting one, but I haven't received it yet. Roovinn (talk) 09:11, 2 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
