Team + Project Rename

Hello Wikimedians, I’m writing today to let you know there’s been a change to the name of our project team.

Previously known as Wikidata For Wikimedia Projects / WD4WMP, we will now be referring to our project as the Wikidata Integrations Team / WIT.

The project and its goals remain the same. The decision was not made lightly and the reasons for changing from the previous name include:

• Remove any sense of hierarchy/primacy or ownership of Wikidata over sibling projects
• People keep asking us to explain what we do after hearing the name (indescriptive team function).
• Long and unwieldy, in text can be understood as a Noun or as a phrase.
• More succinct, memorable name (bonus: cool acronym).

We welcome your questions or comments regarding this name change or indeed any questions about our team and what we’re upto. We will soon be updating our project pages and documentation to reflect this new name.
