Talk:WikiProject Bribery

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Seeking discussion[edit]

I posted this because I care and want relief. There are so many issues in the Wikimedia Movement which lots of people know and discuss but which no one writes.

I live in the United States and only have a little experience with bribery. Other people who live in places with more culture around the practice might be able to say more about this, but some of those people cannot talk publicly. I know the United States' culture of taboo around this and I also have enough freedom from Wikimedia Foundation funding to be able to speak on this issue, so I thought that I would start. Costs of nonprofit registration in the United States[edit]

The major costs of nonprofit registration in the United States are

  1. Establishing trust among 5 people who get legally bound together in the filing
  2. 1 hour of completing an online form
  3. US$50-100 for filing
  4. Waiting 2 days for the filing to become official, which happens through an automated process which approves filings which seem non-criminal

I am most familiar with Washington state, which is one of the more friendly and developed places to live in the US.

In the US there is a difference between being only a nonprofit versus being a nonprofit and also a charitable organization. The costs above refer to nonprofit status. Becoming a en:501(c)(3) organization will take more hours, possibly a lawyer, and possibly $1000. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:59, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
