Contest launch notes[edit]

The contest will launch on the 1st of October. Midnight. South Africa time.

We have a dedicated wikilovesafrica site notice. Here is the direct upload link.

The site notice will appear at the top of ALL wikimedia projects for visitors living in African countries. Not elsewhere. If the visitor has set up his preferences in French or if he visits a French speaking project (such as French Wikipedia)... he will see a site notice in French and a landing page in French. If no language has been specified, or on multilingual projects (such as meta or commons), he will see everything in English. If you want to help translate in other languages, talk to Anthere (talk)

There are three landing pages.

We made QR codes of these pages:

Other files are in the Wiki Loves Africa categories:

We have drafted a press communicate, that you will find here in English and there in French. Please feel free to redistribute this press release to your networks. Adapt it to your own local needs. Isla will send this press release on the 31st. But please help spread the word.

Feel free to retweet http://www.twitter.com/wikilovesAfrica when the contest start.

A blog will be published on Wikimedia Foundation site on the 1st: draft here

Most FAQ pages should give you enough information on the contest itself (in particular to answer questions).

Points which are still missing (and for which you may have questions)

  • The jury has not yet been finalised. We plan it to be of 7 people, 4 being wikimedians. Some externals have been contacted (recently). Feel free to drop names if you have suggestions.
  • The prizes have not yet been finalised either. Isla has contacted some companies with some propositions and one chapter seem to be willing to fund something if necessary. Still work to be done on that matter. Thoughts welcome
  • Leaflets, stickers and other communication material to be printed have not been released yet. Should be done soon.

If you organize events, please tell us (here, or on twitter, or on Facebook...)

Thanks
