@PANKAJ DEO: (and also your team) thank you for this proposal. I would like to ask a few questions:

  • Can you provide links to categories, lists, or SPARQL queries, which show the work that currently exists and needs to be improved? If there is a "work list" of the topics in the Mithila region that you already have? It is important to be able to see that you have a 'defined' and 'sepcific' scope of your work.
  • Have you informed the local community (e.g. by a commmunity-discussion notification on the Nepalese Wikipedia and User-Group) about this proposal - similar to this notification?
  • As you know, content creation on Wikipedia is a volunteer-led and driven activity, and the e-Scholarship program is not intended to pay for 'normal editing' activities. Can you elaborate on why the activities you describe here are 'more' or 'different' from normal editing; or what the eScholarship would assist you to do that you would not normally be able to do? A related question: why has the work that you intend to do not been done before? Is it especially difficult to access sources about these topics, for example?

Hi, LWyatt (WMF) Thank you for reviewing this proposal and Here‘s the answer:
  • We have notified the Maithili Wikipedia community before proposing the e-scholarship, Here one can see the open discussion- https://mai.wikipedia.org/s/1x1
  • Throughout the years, very little work has been done in Wikipedia related to Maithili and Mithila. Her is the category Mithila which we are aiming to improve as well as we will create new items related to Mithila in Wikidata.
  • Well, we continuously tried to develop Mithila related subjects on Maithili Wikipedia but due to lack of information on public domain we can't create many of those. The list work needs research to find the names of animals, plants and birds of the Mithila region in the Maithili language. Once we have a list on local wikipedia, we are very hopeful that someday and someone will definitely work on that list. We are piloting this project as a beginning to create a database of important subjects related to Mithila and trying to develop the resources that help the community.

Thank you, Best Regards -- Pankaj Deo (Talk) 13:31, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
