  • Seems a bit busy and more costumed than I would like for our spokestoon. I think this picture focuses on details too much and neglects the overall appearance, its little too 'urban warrior' for my taste. Would like to see some more examples of this one before I'd be ready to consider it as a contender. Pedant 17:54, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • Agreed. I did give complete freedom to the artists, an he took it to the limit. The image almost seems post-apocalyptic. People posting on this character's DeviantArt page commented she looked Jedi; the artist seemed to not understand reference. -- user:zanimum

    • I'll upload the other ones in a bit. Not to lend judgement before I post, but the other action images that were submitted are somewhat stiff. -- user:zanimum

  • My nephew: "she couldn't possibly be associated with someone who was seriously interested in learning... she seems like she's rebelling against her parents rather than rebelling against not learning" (Me:) I don't think this lends itself to print very well. Pedant 19:48, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • Again, someone you would walk down the school hallway and say "they're smart" might be a good role model for the masses. However, the style is a little to naively drawn for my liking. -- user:zanimum
    • I like it a lot. It needs polish but so what? These are just first draughts. Theresa knott 21:11, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
      • Conceptually its good, its just she doesn't have the drawing abilities to put Kiki in an elaborate Egyptian palace, or looking down at the rainforest floor from 100-feet up. How do I know this? Look at "Ocness- uhm... I dunno" by her. The short wall/bench/I don't know what it is isn't in proper perspective, and the green haired girl's left leg looks amputated. Also, the right arm of the same girl, it looks like you're seeing the back of her hand (no thumb muscle indicated, which means the thumb is on the wrong side of the hand. -- user:zanimum
    • OK I agree this one needs to be dropped. Theresa knott 16:15, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I like the treatment of the sample picture: the one with the camel. I think that this one is one of the ones I would consider, might use a little polishing up first before it would be my first choice. I like that it isn't 'sexy'. My nephew says: "the eyes look strange, too close together. I like the second picture (meaning the one with the camel) she looks good"... (in profile but) ..."from the front she looks strange" Pedant 17:45, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • I guess I should note that Peter's comic never really went anywhere; I don't know what caused the sudden lack of interest once he moved past the development. -- user:zanimum

Described on her deviantArt page as "a little rascal, tuff girl type". She also apologizes for the watermark, but is concerned about protecting her designs.

Comments[edit]

  • Seems difficult to reproduce, and not distinctive, a little bland and unexciting. Would have to see this one rendered as a black and white image first. Am concerned about working with an artist that is overly concerned with inttelectual property issues. Would prefer to have an artist that wouldn't mind collaboration even to the point of someone else drawing the character in the artist's style, if possible, open source art style. Pedant 19:39, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yeah, that was what first struck me. Considering the very public DeviantArt postings don't seem to have (c)s on them, yet a proposal to what is currently a rather hidden community does. There needs to be a certain level of trust between all parties involved that doesn't (yet, thought it very well could later) exist between us. I really liked the rest of the stuff in her portfolio on DeviantArt, this design doesn't seem near as bold. -- user:zanimum

I haven't asked Rainbo, but based on her forehead, this version of Nikki appears to be Hindu.

Comments[edit]

  • While we'll control the situations and poses she's in, I find it odd to have her stooped over a computer, when I did try to make her activity-level clear. -- user:zanimum
  • Not necessarily Hindu, but by the forehead and clothes, definitely Indian (speaking as one who's been to India a few times). I thought we were going for Hawaiian? -- user:Geoffrey
    • We were. However, with a few weeks left on the call for entries, there were only like three entries. Out of desperation, I let potential artists have the freedom of making Kiki any race they felt like. -- user:zanimum

  • The images in the full picture appear to be of several different girls in the same costume rather than the same girl in different poses. I think our character needs to be very versatile. Would like too see a cleaner less smudgy image for reproduction purposes. I like the overall shape and character portrayed though, like a big sister type, that might appeal to the older part of our target group. Pedant 19:46, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • I tend to agree with you, this artist's consistancy may not be great. Granted, few of the others submitted multiple poses of the design. -- user:zanimum
