Brianna's ideas[edit]

I think it would be useful for Wikimedia Australia (ie, Wikimedians in Australia) to hold some kind of structured event(s) in 2008. Besides the actual usefulness of whatever the event is, two secondary side benefits are A) practice in event organisation (and on a smaller scale) and B) practice for Wikimedians in Australia in speaking and presenting opportunities.

A few weeks ago I talked to a Dutch Wikipedian who had attended their national Wikimedia conference: http://www.wikimediaconferentie.nl/english/ She described the various workshops they had, such as a panel where experienced admins talk about their administrator experiences and things they think are important in the activities they do.

Rather than leaping into a single national event straight away - I don't think we have the critical mass of people to make it successful on that scale - I think it would be useful to have a smaller event first. A hands-on workshop type event could work, but probably not as a national thing: east coast only.

Discussing it at the last meetup, it evolved a bit as is now described on the content page. pfctdayelise 04:12, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
