Open Badges?[edit]

Were these open badges based on any other open badges, for example, Mozilla's open badges? [1] 2 Also, it might be good to clarify that these are virtual badges, not physical badges. And, this point might be too far into the weeds, but I'll mention it anyway. Mozilla distinguishes between 'digital badges' and 'open badges'. 3 Open badges, it seems, require verification of skills to earn. If that is the case with WMSV's badges, it would be good to note that. You link to Open Badges from Mozilla where it says "learn more" at the end, but in my opinion, that is not soon enough. “Wikipedia pedagogue”[edit]

The educator badge has a specific name: “Wikipedia pedagogue”. Spelled another way later in the draft: Wikipediapedagog. (It would be less confusing to use only one term.) Does the student badge also have a name? The term "Wikipedia Student Badge" is used later in the draft. If that is the title, please include it in first sentence of that section. Hi @Sara Mörtsell (WMSE): Congratulations on your first blog post. Please have a look on the following modest comments on your draft:

  1. The title "Issuing Open Badges to recognise Wikipedia skills in the Education Program" gives me the impression that you are talking about the global education program not Sweden Ed program. I would prefer stating the country in the title to avoid ambiguity.
  2. In the last line of your first paragraph you stated that "For the individual earner, digital badges has the potential to unlock new career and educational opportunities." are you sure that these badges would help with education and work opportunities? I am asking as it is a bit weird for me, personally, but I understand that it might vary from a culture to another. e.g. in the US it is very likely that you attend a course and don't get a certificate while it is one of the most important things in the Arab World. For me and in my society in general taking a virtual badge will not help in the job market but maybe it helps in yours. If you are not sure that it helps with career building please remove as some people would consider it exaggeration.
  3. You have used both words teachers and educators. I changed them all to "educator" as a superordinate that includes teachers.
  4. I agree with Anna that the use of the first person, i.e. "I and We" is not much recommended in blog posts, unless you are speaking about a personal experience like when people write about their experience with Wikipedia/the Education Program or when someone tells the story of a trip they had, etc. Thank you for removing the "I" pronoun. "We" will give the reader the impression that you represent your chapter and talking from its perspective which is fine I think in your case and may be you have the intention to give this impression as a representative of your chapter and because you are featuring the chapter's achievement in this post.
  5. You may know that the WMF blog is a global one and other languages will be a great add to posts beside the English, so if you wanted to add Swedish translation of this post or any other post you write about projects in Sweden in the future please feel free to do.

In general your post is really nice and I have enjoyed reading it. Thank you for this update and the learning experience you gave me.
