Talk:Wikimedia CH/Call for projects 2017/Scanning books for Wikisource
Add topicNot Just Books
[edit]What about other "printed" material and wikt:ephemera?
- Although not books as such, I was going to suggest consideration be given to the scanning of other "text" resources such as (not exhaustive) :
- Instruction manuals. (which can be a single sheet/booklet).
- guide booklets.
- pamphlets. (in looking at some material in a museum the amount of printed ephemra the UK government generated (even prior to 1965 was quite suprising! )
- (old) examination papers. (And the printed answers if they existed.)
- auction catalouges etc...
- small-ads. ( Whilst the layout on Wikisource is not ideal, small ads are a gold mine for social historians.) :)
Scanning printed ephemra may well have to be doene through GLAM though as the most likely source of these are archives and record offices, but these are historical materials often overlooked. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 17:20, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
- In short , getting a grant for a multi-lingual 'Scanning Fund' would be useful (provided the WMF is prepared to work with other organisations like Internet Archive and GLAM partners.) ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 17:25, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
WMCH project submission feedback
[edit]Dear Yann ,
Thank you very much for participating in the Wikimedia CH call for projects 2017! We truly appreciate the time and effort spent for submitting your ideas.
The WMCH team has carefully examined your request for project funding. In order to be fully transparent, we provide answers on the discussion pages directly within a given project’s submission page, so that the community can access all the information.
The Association is delighted to be able to offer its support to your grant request. You may find all the information as to how this project aligns with WMCH’s APG submission for 2017 and what is planned through this link (Check section Program 1: GLAM under the project line 4: Collaboration with other communities).
With regard to the specifics of your request, WMCH - in its APG submission for 2017 - proposed the financial support for your project with a budget of up to CHF.-5000 (subject to final approval of both the FDC and the WMF Board at the end of December 2016).
This budget can cover the costs of: Organizing events (space to host the meeting, snacks & refreshments) Supporting transport costs for volunteers to meet libraries enabling access to content Covering the digitization of books through the libraries services
Please note that the project does not include the possibility to purchase a scanner as the Wikimedia Foundation does not encourage or finance the purchase of equipment.
Please note however, that those funding possibilities, if approved by the WMF at the end of 2016, will be available under the following conditions:
All the expenses will require original invoices. Costs may be covered upfront in order to avoid incurring any financial expenses if required.
In exchange for this support, WMCH asks for a detailed report of the activities carried out. As it is a year long project, a progress report needs to be submitted before the 30th of June 2017 (so that WMCH can include the findings in its own report to the WMF) and a final report needs to be submitted by the 10th of January 2018. We will be sending you the report requirements once we receive the confirmation from the Wikimedia Foundation about the approval of the association’s APG submission.
Many thanks for your involvement in the Wikimedia movement!
Thanking you again for your submission, we remain at your disposal should you have further questions.
Kindly,
Wikimedia CH

support of the project
[edit]I find this project a great idea, I just regret that there is no "support" or join the project button. --Nattes à chat (talk) 11:44, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
- Hi @Nattes à chat:, at this stage the project does not have a dedicated page yet. You will be able to join the project as a participant once it is set up :) Many thanks for your keen interest. Gabrielle Marie WMCH (talk) 07:40, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
