Notes posted[edit]

@Atsme, Sage (Wiki Ed), BusterD, Jc37, MJL, RoySmith, and ჯეო: I've just posted notes from our call yesterday. Thanks to those of you who attended, I think it was a really useful conversation. Please feel free to adjust or expand the notes, and if there's anything we didn't cover, please let me know! Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 10:58, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies for not making the call yesterday. My main issue was getting task T257893 unstalled. The ability for checkusers to perform their jobs is under serious attack on two fronts: the rise of residential proxies, and the recently implemented change in Chrome to reduce the amount of detail in user agent headers.
T257893 describes actions that we can implement to reduce the impact of the UA reduction threat, or possibly even work around it completely. There has been much discussion on the internal CU mailing list and IRC channel regarding this and I think it's safe to say that the CUs are unanimous that completing work on T257893 should be given high priority. @RoySmith No problem - thanks for following up. I've been chasing this up internally as there are multiple teams that had been looking into the issue in the past. They're now investigating again but I don't have any further updates right now. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 14:23, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Could I ask that you provide a status update (when you know more) on the phab ticket? Quite a few people are watching that ticket so it's probably the best way to keep the interested folks in the loop. RoySmith (talk) 14:33, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Atsme, Sage (Wiki Ed), BusterD, Jc37, MJL, RoySmith, and ჯეო: Hi all - I just wanted to follow up in this thread to say that our team has published information and open questions about the project we're exploring for next year at Moderator Tools/Automoderator. Our hope is that we can reduce the overall burden of patrolling new edits, freeing up moderator time. I'd really appreciate your thoughts and input on that talk page.
