Talk:Wikimedia Foundation elections/Board elections/2004/Vote interface translation

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hi. I am wondering if I can translate the boxed text (a header) "Wikimedia Board Elections: Vote open until June 12" into "ウィキメディア財団理事選挙 6月12日まで." If anybody knows anything about how I can do that, please let me know. Thanks, Tomos 09:43, 31 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

obscure strings and suggestion[edit]

What exactly are the meaning of "IP", "User agent", "Strike", and "Unstrike" in this context? Please give some info so I can translate them.

I also suggest that the default MediaWiki:boardvote_intro add a link to this page (with some html comment telling translators that the link has not to be translated), so that it is easier to translate it, first person voting on a given wiki can just start the translation (I had to do some information hunting on meta to find how to translate it).

It would be nice too to have a standard link to the candidates list alongside the "vote", "encripted dump" and "votes already cast"; or maybe have each candidate name be a link to its own presentation.

The way I understand the election system (which is not much), the election administrators check if there are any votes from the same person. IP and user agent are info about voter's IP address and user agent (such as IE 6.0 or Opera 7.0, etc.). Strike and Unstrike are the operations the election admins do - strike means marking a vote as invalid, unstrike means changing the invalid mark to valid. As I understand, all there information is available only to election administrators, so there is no need for translation.

Ok, so those strins are only seen by burocrats, or even only by election administrators? Srtxg 08:28, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I am a bureaucrat at ja. and I don't see any such option on the voting interface. Only the election admins, I suppose. Tomos 21:05, 3 Jun 2004 (UTC)

How to know how to translate interfaces[edit]

Discussion moved from Talk:Wikipedian meetings in Europe

Anthere
