Wikimedia Foundation is pleased to announce the second annual Wikimania convergence, Wikimania 2006! Last year's event in Frankfurt, Germany, was a major success, bringing together members of the Wikimedia project communities, internet professionals and visionaries, and academics in the wide range of fields which share the nexus of ideas and technology surrounding Wikipedia and its sister projects. It was too good an event for there to be only one.

Where: Harvard Law School campus, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
When: 4-6 August 2006
What: A conference and get together of Wikimedians, internet professionals and entrepeneurs, and scholars.
Why: To learn, to share, to laugh, to explore.

Focusing on the peer production model, this year's conference is attracting a range of speakers, presentations and workshops meetings, building on the diversity and eclecticism which makes Wikipedia itself so unique and powerful a phenomenon. Speakers include Larry Lessig of the Creative Commons, Brewster Kahle of the Open Content Alliance and co-founder of Alexa Internet (among many other break-through companies and projects), Clay Shirky (whose blogosphere observation is now known as Shirky's Law), and Jimmy Wales of the Wikimedia Foundation. Presentations will cover topics from community self-governance to server management. Workshops will cover how to write the perfect definition for wiktionary to using semantic web technologies to how to use wikis for education.

The campus of Harvard Law school is a perfect venue, offering generous spaces for the many activities surrounding such an event. With support from the school and the Berkman Center for Internet and Society you can expect a thoroughly unwired event, with many presentations being streamed online and podcasted. Dorm space will be available directly on-site on a space-available basis; get your registration in early for best chances!

Registration is online for this year's Wikimania, and further information regarding the program of speakers and presentations is being made available as it is formalized on the Wikimania 2006 website. Community members get a discount on their registration, and help is being made available for overseas travelers in need of US visas.

We are looking forward to another huge get-together!
