ANN Spamcheck

Spamcheck is a new tool to find additions of external links by domain or user for fighting crosswiki spam. Link additions have been recorded since November 2023. It is currently labeled alpha and in heavy development but it should already be useful for fighting spam.

For spamcheck external links are defined as wikitext containing either a bare url or [url displaytitle]. Links added via templates are also recorded. In this case an external link (by this definition) to fr.wikipedia.org was added via (transitive) inclusion of the fr:Modèle:Créer brouillon light template.
Spamcheck records all external link additions until a threshold is reached. Then they are marked as allowlisted. fr.wikipedia.org was not allowlisted in November so the the addition to a fr.wikipedia.org link coming from fr:Modèle:Créer brouillon light was recorded.
I will change this in one of the next releases so that link additions for allowlisted hosts are not shown at all. That would include links to fr.wikipedia.org which has since been allowlisted. Count Count (talk) 08:34, 12 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
By the way I am not sure how you found this link in spamcheck? Did you enter fr.wikipedia.org in the domain field? The tool expects an external (spammed) domain to be entered there, e.g. bk8.casino. I apologize for the lack of documentation, it is on my TODO list. Daily reports of additions of links to suspicious domains will come soon. It was deleted in many wikipedias. However it is live on other wikis such as: German, Kazakh and KrWiki. There is also a discussion that it was a cross-wiki spam: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Egov.Press

A single user has introduced machine translations of this article to a dozen language versions, most of them have been deleted since then. That's obviously crosswiki spam, as I stated in our dewiki deletion discussion [1]. Unfortunately our community doesn't have deletion criteria for spam and the deciding admin has deemed the quality of the article to be sufficient in order not to be deleted.
The accounts are not related to Papa2004, but there is xwiki sockpuppet abuse: en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Zzremin. Johannnes89 (talk) 19:01, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi everyone, I think that Kenneth Wehr who kept the article in German-language Wikipedia raised a relevant point in this discussion: "Soweit ich weiß ist es kein Löschgrund an sich, dass ein Artikel in mehreren Sprachversionen erstellt wird. Die Frage ist also Relevanz und Qualität" - that is, he points out that creating an article in multiple language versions of Wikipedia, in and of itself, is not forbidden, and not necessarily to be considered spam, if notability and sufficient article quality are given. In this case, he deemed the article to be of sufficient notability and quality. Notability-wise, I (not having been aware of the case previously to Wooze's speedy deletion request which I rejected merely on formal grounds, it's the wrong process after a "keep" decision in German Wikipedia) tend to agree with Kenneth, as it's apparently a website that organizes petitions which had a tangible impact on politics in Kazakhstan (including renaming the capital). The subject matter is completely alien to me, however, Kazakh politics are not my area of expertise at all, so this is just what I gather from reading the article. Quality-wise, I think that the decision is more questionable - as Johannnes89 points out, it started as a low-quality machine translation; however, if you look at the version history, it has been edited and improved by local Wikipedian Gunnar.Kaestle since Kenneth's decision. Anyway, regarding German-language Wikipedia, if someone still thinks the article should be deleted, the process would be Löschprüfung (revision of admin decisions), as already mentioned there. Hi (ping @MarioGom and Nacaru:). es:Abbas Sajwani should be deleted imho. See fr:Discussion_utilisateur:Jules*#Compte_rémunéré_? and en:Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Abbas Sajwani.

I deleted fr-wp version of this article, where I found a source that is in fact a copy of a press release. I also removed a paid source from es-wp. Finally, I have doubts about this source I never heard of and which have an advertising tone, but I didn't dig about it.

There may be UPE, and at least there is some cross-wiki spam.

I deleted fr:Protik Barua Sikder, sources are not reliable, they have been set up only for advertising this guy, see [2] or [3] for example.

This article exist on 5 other languages, see wikidata:Q130789472. Account used to create them: Xikmoryt (CA · xwiki · sc · COIBot report).

MMonte97 (talk • meta edits • global user summary • CA) is publishing cross-wiki spam for his employer, Valter Longo, as he is his "Social Media Manager. It is at least undisclosed paid editing and a COI. The edits contain a great amount of self-portrayal by his employer, which presumably does not adhere to the neutral point of view. I've added the COI disclosure on my personal page. I'm trying to update the Wikipedia pages for my clients while remaining as neutral as possible and following Wikipedia's rules. I’m not trying to spam; that’s not my intention. I’m sorry if it appeared that way. I’m completely new to Wikipedia and was just trying to publish updates on Valter's page. If you have any suggestions on how I can improve or fix my edits, I’m open to feedback. I really don’t want to create any spam or cause any issues. My apologies. Cross-wiki spam to create articles about Manu Alvarez, by Artemusicale (CA · xwiki · sc · COIBot report) on fr + it-wp (it:Manu Alvarez). Deleted on fr-wp, as the subject does not meet notability criterias. I think es-wp (es:Manuel Alvarez) and de-wp (de:Manuel Alvarez (Sänger)) should also check if the subject is elligible to an article: those were created in 2022 by SPA: Culturaeuropea (CA · xwiki · sc · COIBot report) and Yeltes Even (CA · xwiki · sc · COIBot report), and I think they are socks.
