Avañe'ẽ (Guarani language)[edit]

  • Wikimedia Statistics can be difficult to interpret. What is your impression, how many steady contributors do you have?
    • Currently none active contributors. But time after time the waves of new contributions come. Hugo.arg 22:35, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Are your contributors mostly native speakers?
    • Yes, though none of them is a sysop. I don't speak Guarani and usually only supervise the project or sometimes write an small article using language sources. Hugo.arg 22:35, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Where do your contributors live (regions/country)?
    • Most of contributors come from Paraguay but there was some edits from Brasil and Argentina. Hugo.arg 22:35, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
  • How common is it that your contributors meet in real life?
    • Well, I get some invitations to meet the users in Paraguay but still have no possibilities to do that. Most Paraguayan editors are from Ateneo of Guarani language and other educational institutions and know each other. Hugo.arg 22:35, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Other Wikipedias[edit]

  • Do you have special contacts with other Wikipedias (maybe in related languages)?
  • Do you translate a lot from other Wikipedias? Which ones?
    • Most editions came from the original sources. Hugo.arg 22:35, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Organization and support[edit]

Your Wikipedia and the linguistic community[edit]

  • Is there a language institution for your language, like an Academy, or a club of people interested in your language? Do you have contact with them?
  • Who (else) supports you?
  • What does the public outreach for your edition look like? Do you have fliers, give lectures, training etc.?
    • Educators from Paraguay wrote some letters about wikipedia in Paraguayan newspapers, internet mailing groups. Hugo.arg 22:35, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Do you get feedback from readers?
    • Rarely. Most people of the region has no access to Internet. Hugo.arg 22:35, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
  • What other encyclopedias exist in your language?
    • I don't know exactly but I think that Wikipedia is the first encyclopedic project in Guarani. Only last 20 years Guarani language got more support from governament.

  • Does your edition concentrate on certain topics, like your region and language, or Latin Wikipedia on Roman history and Christianity?
  • Yes, most of articles are about Paraguayan people, cities, culture, etc. Hugo.arg 22:35, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Did your edition enjoy text donations, for example from older encyclopedias?

  • Is there a generally accepted norm about your language (spelling, dictionary, pronunciation)?
    • Yes but it's rarely used in daily life. Most Paraguayans use mix of Guarani and Spanish called Jopara and native Guaranis use their local dialects. Hugo.arg 22:35, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
  • How do you deal with different spellings, dialects etc. (like B.E. lift and A.E. elevator)?
    • Well, most articles are written by the professional linguists. Hugo.arg 22:35, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
