Wikitext problem with pipe characters[edit]

This template is technically problematic. It takes a potentially huge big chunk of formatted wikitext as a parameter. Whenever that chunk of discussion happens to contain a pipe character ("|"), the pipe character will be parsed as part of the template syntax, meaning that all the rest of the discussion will be cut off in display. This can have very confusing results. It would be preferable to have a pair of {{closed top}} and {{closed bottom}} templates.

Demonstration:

{{closed|Silly example|text=A harmless discussion about the "|" character}}

gets displayed as:

The following discussion is closed: Silly example

A harmless discussion about the "
