Template talk:FDC proposal/Program

Heatherawalls, Jean-Frédéric: The use of inline styles to format these headlines means that they don't actually show up as headlines in the table of contents, which makes it harder to reference them. I suggest we replace them with proper wikitext headlines to make proposals easier to reference and use.---Eloquence (talk) 19:48, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eloquence. There actually used to be section headers requested in the proposal (it's usual best if they aren't in the template) and it was thought to be confusing *that* way, I'll bring it up about putting them back. My recollection is that if we put it in here and someone uses it to edit, it will call the template to edit instead, yeah? :) heather walls (talk) 19:53, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks both for your suggestions. I think what Heather may be recalling is that we used to have two names for each program: one which worked as a header (with a number) and another which was formatted as wikitext (as a title). That was definitely confusing and is to be avoided. I think what Eloquence is suggesting is that we make sure that each program is a subsection of the programs section so that it is easy to locate each program in the table of contents (and to link to each program from other pages when needed). When I add the headers to the template, the background color is preserved, but the color of the text is lost. I have implemented this change, at the expense of the way the page looks, since I agree the change is needed to make the more lengthy proposals easier to navigate. If anyone can figure out a solution to changing the text color in a heading, please feel welcome to do so here! Otherwise, I'm also open to changing the background color to something that looks better with the black header text since the dark blue with black is indeed a bit ugly. Hi all, the program box titles now show up in the table of contents but are not separately editable. I would argue that they might be easier to deal with if they could each be worked on separately - but we can talk about that for next time. Thank you for the work and suggestions, heather walls (talk) 17:22, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for your work on this, Heather! Cheers, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 07:58, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have been struggling with header formatting and TOC too :) − for some reason I could not make {{TOClimit}} work, nor have edit section links, nor display=none headers while having them in the TOC… Go figure.
The only issue with the solution now implemented is that edit section links do not work ; but as APG are not supposed to be edited I guess this is not that problematic.
(Do note however how implementing this change affected our proposal, with doubled headers ;-þ)
