Template talk:Move

Shortcomings[edit]

This template appears to have some issues. I will use content page VRT as an example.
It has been proposed to move VRTVolunteer Response Team. This proposal was made 04:01, 23 July 2021‎ (UTC). The template as applied on the page says it links to the discussion at Meta:Proposed page moves, except there is no such discussion there—neither on the page, nor in the archive. There is a discussion on said page's Talk page, and there is a link in the main page's history which directs to a "discussion" at Phabricator rather than Meta. Thus, the template's discussion link is missing the ability to direct to the discussion's location (or redirect if elsewhere).

Additionally, it is not obvious without viewing the page's history as to how old this proposal is. Similar templates on other projects also display a month and year within the message box. Because of the broken discussion link and missing date stamp, I feel the template's performance is inadequate. I have taken it upon myself to add the code {{#if:{{{date<includeonly>|</includeonly>}}}|<small>'' Proposed since {{{date<includeonly>|</includeonly>}}}.''</small>}} to the template, but someone should check to make sure it works properly. — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR, USA (talk) 07:54, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently, the date coding I had copied from w:Template:Merge wasn't quite right. It has been fixed now, at least for manual entry. I do not know if automatic entry works, as I haven't seen it work in Preview mode; maintenance bots are probably not currently set to recognize this template. — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR, USA (talk) 02:22, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
