The Alps on Wikipedia (in Italian Il paesaggio culturale alpino su Wikipedia: Valorizzare il paesaggio culturale attraverso dati aperti, Wikipedia, Sit e allestimenti analogico digitali) is a project which focuses on open data and the Creative Commons attribution-share alike license to provide access to existing content on the Alps (cultural and natural heritage, geography, anthropology...); it links data from the Geographic information system to Wikipedia; it contributes to Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 and it produces the design of two museums in Italy which take into account also the link between digital and analog. The project was submitted in 2012 to the European Commission Interreg programme by SUPSI (in Switzerland) and Comunità Montana Valsassina Valvarrone, Val d’Esino e Riviera and Comune di Esino Lario (in Italy) and it has been supported by the Interreg programme in 2013. Outcomes[edit]Alpinescapes[edit]Integration of GIS and Wikipedia. Map Alpinescapes http://www.paesaggiculturali.polimi.it Institutions[edit]Guidelines for institutions interested in contributing to Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia CH website devoted to provide tools, information and resources about how to contribute to Wikipedia with Creative Commons licenses https://glam.wikimedia.ch/it/ Institutions and public administrations in Italy and Switzerland support the project by releasing a selection of their content with an open license or as open data. => The networking with institutions and public administrations is a chance to develop a specific new project GLAM exhibition and event in Lugano 2014 and to test the organization of an exhibition of best practices using posters. Training => The training planned within the project is a chance to develop a specific new project Certificating training. The project contributes to Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 in Italy and Switzerland by involving institutions and supporting its communication. Please note that the project does not have as an evaluation metric the production of Wikipedia articles or content on other Wikimedia projects. We will contribute with content (i.e. uploads of images, texts and data, because we believe it can contribute in a valuable way to the Wikimedia projects) but articles can be erased, and freely criticized by the community. The project is meant to contribute indirectly to Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects by supporting the use of open licenses by institutions, by providing training and assistance and by contributing to the communication of Wiki Loves Monuments at a local level in particular in Ticino and Lombardy Region.
