Translate-a-thon focusing on violence against women and girls to celebrate IWD 2024

Background[edit]

This event is targeted at training IG Wiki Hub,Enugu old and new members on how to translate English Wikipedia pages to Igbo Wikipedia and translate -a-thon focusing on Violence against women and girls (VAWG) in alignment to 2024 theme of making investments in women to accelerate progress to mark the International Women’s Day, 2024. IG Wiki Hub Enugu in collaboration with Equity Watch Initiative (E-WIN) University of Nigeria, Nsukka would host this event to highlight the issues of violence against women and girls and work towards achieving the global goal5 (promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls) in Igbo language. This event will involve translating Wikipedia pages on other gender (women)related issues from English to Igbo Wikipedia.

Aim[edit]

  • The major aim of the event is to celebrate women and draw global attention to the issues affecting women especially violence against women and girls and to make the issues of women known in Igbo language.
  • it is also targeted at promoting Igbo language and culture. This will help to bridge the content gap in Wikipedia and promote inclusivity Wikimedia Foundation and Wikimedia Projects.
