My name is Mothusi Sekhomba born in Kanye and living in Gaborone, Botswana.
As an Editor
[edit]I am an active Wikimedian since August 2023. My contributions within the Wikimedia movement are guided by a commitment to open collaboration and diversity. Engaging in projects such as the English to Setswana translation challenge has provided me with opportunities to contribute to language diversity within the Wikimedia ecosystem. Additionally, involvement in initiatives like the 2022 SheSaid Campaign and Wiki Loves Women on Wikiquote reflects my interest in supporting projects that amplify underrepresented voices.

Exploring the complexities of Wikidata during the Wiki Loves Africa campaign has been a part of my journey, contributing to the broader conversation on data representation. A noteworthy experience was co-organizing a panel discussion in 2022, addressing climate change in Africa as part of Wiki Loves Africa.
At WikiVerse Botswana
[edit]Currently, I serve as the Founding Director of WikiVerse Botswana, where I provide strategic oversight and steward the affiliate’s vision within the Wikimedia movement. In this capacity, I facilitate community mobilization, cultivate partnerships with local and international stakeholders, and ensure alignment with Wikimedia’s global mission of free knowledge. My responsibilities include establishing sustainable governance structures, coordinating outreach and training programs, and supporting contributors through recognition frameworks that encourage retention and pride.
As founding director, I prioritize the documentation of Botswana’s cultural heritage alongside contemporary narratives, ensuring representation that is both authentic and impactful. I work to create inclusive participation pathways, enabling diverse communities, particularly youth and underrepresented groups, to engage in editing, content creation, and campaign activities. Through collaborative initiatives such as edit‑a‑thons, thematic drives, and cross‑affiliate partnerships, WikiVerse Botswana is positioned as a hub for innovation and knowledge equity in the region.
This role reflects a progression from my earlier contributions as Community Outreach Facilitator with Wikimedia Community User Group Botswana, where I focused on grassroots engagement and building initial networks of contributors. Today, as founding director, I continue to advance that mission at an organizational level, transforming community energy into sustainable structures that amplify Botswana’s voice within the Wikimedia ecosystem.
Project involvement
[edit]My project involvement spans English Wikipedia, Setswana Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikiquote, and Wikimedia Commons. I continue to champion initiatives that blend language diversity, cultural documentation, and youth engagement, ensuring that Botswana’s stories are preserved and celebrated within the Wikimedia ecosystem.
