About me
I originally hail from Bikaner, India. Before joining the Wikimedia Foundation, I was a student researcher at the MIT Media Lab exploring how online platforms for learning could be made more peer-led, engaging, participatory and accessible to diverse populations. At the Media Lab, I contributed to the design, development, and research of Unhangout, a platform for running large-scale unconference style events online.
Before MIT, I was working as a software developer with a startup organization in India. As an undergrad, I was involved with the open source community GNOME and its educational project GCompris.
My work
Broadly, I support the efforts of the organization to engage new volunteer developers in Wikimedia software projects and to grow our technical community. My work involves:
- Participation in outreach programs and events to onboard and mentor new volunteers to contribute to Wikimedia technical projects.
- Researching the needs and requirements of technical contributors and experimenting with new ways to onboard and retain them.
- Developing tools and tutorials to help introduce new concepts.
- Collaborating with external organizations to engage technical contributors in free and open source software projects.
My current focus areas are Outreach programs mainly Google Summer of Code & Outreachy, Small wiki toolkits, Toolhub and MediaWiki Action API documentation improvements.
