- Reminder: This is a wiki! Edit and refactor at will.
- Project
- We need a draft wiki that supports knowledge-generation experiments. Something that anyone / anybot can edit, with permalinks to historical revisions but no barriers to making changes. Including draft media, data, articles, and models / modules / scripts.
- Current discussion
- NPP? & New 'Pedia blog post.
Ideas
[edit]- Machine learning and AI models need a place to share generated translations, captions, descriptions, without being blocked for not crossing the quality threshold of a particular wiki community. These partial results can be used to improve future models, and as drafts for people / tools to draw on when editing other projects.
- GLAM institutions need a 'neutral zone' to stage uploading bulk media, metadata, and texts.
- Libraries that may have millions of records need a space to post freely-licensed versions of their abstracts and descriptions (w/o being reverted)
- Local organizations and communities w/o a depth of reliable sources writing about their topic need a place to develop free content about their topics of focus. (w/o arguing about notability)
- Pop culture needs a place to capture information about breaking fads (w/o having to go to Fandom).
- WikiSpores need a place to merge their namespaces (at worst into a disambiguated __NAME (spore)__ where there's a conflict).
- for newbies (adults): an entrypoint to the new knowledge ecosystem. (discoverable evergreen content about any topic)
- for kids and parents: a chatbot that kids are comfortable with, that draws on Wikiverse and not .com sites (that parents can be comfortable exposing them to // could be a filter or setting on Siri and other home agents)
- for young users (from Sat talk): places on the internet that don't suck; that aren't cesspools of harassment and trolling; that aren't denominated in gaming, gambling, and influencers
- for governments an archives: a place that is designed to capture regional knowledge (before it disappears; appealing to everyone). no restrictions based on notability, license clearance [that comes after capturing it as discoverable knowledge whose uploaders/authors release all ©]
- for bots + agents: a place that's fun and useful to contribute to, as shared resource
- for all: an experimental draft space where it's okay to be wrong and make mistakes
Interface features
[edit]- natural language interface
- uploads that support a range of formats + do transcoding (like I.Archive)
- clear message about participation: "share what you know; everyone can edit"
- drafts auto-saved; simple copilot completion + background processing available
- queue for requests / interests
- APIs for automated contribs (edits, reviews, uploads), may invite N reviews for each post
- bulk imports from deep knowledge catalogs (in whole or for summarization + linking out)
- tool like Recaptcha for making stabilizing use of interest from high-volume contributors
Challenges
[edit]- Deletionism on current projects.
- Still need to counter spam/abuse.
