My name is Waldir Pimenta. I come from Cape Verde and live in Portugal. I'm mostly active on the English and Portuguese Wikipedias, on Wikimedia Commons and on Wikidata, and to a lesser degree on MediaWiki, Wiktionary and Wikisource.

I'm an administrator on the English Wikipedia and on MediaWiki.org, and was formerly an admin on Commons and Portuguese Wikipedia (in both cases, I lost the privileges for not performing administrative actions often enough, despite remaining an active editor).

I'm also a co-founder and board member of Wikimedia Portugal (of which I was the first president), a volunteer translator on translatewiki.net (mostly to Kabuverdianu, my native language), and a former volunteer responder at OTRS (now VRT).

I've participated on several in-person Wikimedia events: notably Wikimania 2007, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2023 (10 years later!) and 2024, as well as Wikimedia Hackathons in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2019, 2023 and 2024.

As a technical contributor, I have dabbled with templates and user scripts, edited documentation at mediawiki.org, logged bugs and feature requests on Bugzilla and Phabricator, and submitted patches to MediaWiki code via gerrit. I also had a toolserver account (though I didn't get around to actually implement any tools there); later I got an account on Toolforge, where I host a couple tools, most notably Primerpedia.

Information non-related to Wikimedia can be found in my website waldyrious.net, and here are some pictures of me.

Contributions on all wikimedia wikis

[edit]

Summary: +150k edits total ( ~70k @ commons, ~50k @ wikidata, ~20k @ en.wikipedia, ~10k @ pt.wikipedia, ~2k @ mediawiki, ~2k @ meta, ~2k @ en.wiktionary, ~1k @ en.wikisource, and many others)

First contribution

[edit]
  • There's no log entry of my first Wikipedia account creation, but the first edit that I have record of is from 02:39, 2 February 2005 (uploaded this image).
  • Evidence that I edited throughout 2005 without logging in.
  • Hmm. Enwiki's upload log says my account there was created on 02:58, 2 February 2005, but the User list says my account was created on 03:02, 2 February 2005. What gives?
    • Well, the User contributions says my first edit was indeed on 03:02, 2 February 2005, and that was either my first edit (not a log action such as an upload) or my first non-deleted action (at the time the estimate was made). In any case, this point may be worth raising in the relevant bugs.

User page

[edit]
  • To do:
    • add {{#babel:kea|pt|en-3|es-1|xx-0}}, where xx = lang code of the wiki
    • Change prefs (available options) using User:Glaisher/setGlobalPrefs.js:
      • gender=male
      • language=en
      • enotifwatchlistpages=1 (email on watchlist changes)
      • enotifusertalkpages=1 (email on user talk messages)
    • Add global.js (global.css is already done). Documentation here
    • Merge my Wikimania2007 account
      • I was invited on April 30 and the User:Waldir account was registered on May 16.
      • Someone once confirmed me (through IRC, I believe) that the email address associated with the User:Waldir account was not waldir@email.com, so it likely wasn't me
      • Indeed, apparently all my edits were done anonymously
      • On February 2015, the User:Waldir account was renamed to User:Waldir (usurped). It's a pity, since it could have been merged to my global account if phab:T16416 had been resolved by then.
      • So, apparently the User:Waldir account won't be created because the wm07 wiki is now closed (I suppose the existing one was usurped just to prevent confusion with my global account, even though it had no edits and will never have). I wonder if IP edits can be reattributed to an account, though. That'd be neat :´)
    • I tried (2015-07-16) renaming my global account to waldyrious, to harmonize my usernames across online platforms
      • It turns out I already had created that account on eswiki back in 21 November 2006, 19:15 UTC (it became a global account, albeit without automatically created accounts on other wikis, on 17 April 2013, 21:50 UTC).
      • Because of this, automatic rename wasn't possible. I will have to wait for the global account merge tool to request a merge here.
      • Meanwhile, as I logged in to that account today (2015-07-16), it automatically created 16 other accounts connected to the global one. No idea why the remaining ones weren't created too.
      • Requested merge on 18 October 2015, but was not possible at the time.

Random stuff

[edit]
  • DynamicPageList and Help:DPL
  • Wishful thinking: Some projects should be renamed:
    • For consistency (so they're all in the form "Wikisomething"):
      • Wikimedia Commons → Wikicommons (actually, this should be called Wikimedia, and the foundation... perhaps Wikicontent? Wikihost?)
      • Mediawiki → Wikiware (or Wikihost, or Wikisite). Also, a different logo, please! "the sunflower represents the diversity of content on Wikipedia, the constant growth and also the wildness." -- not intuitive at all!
    • For clarity:
      • Wikibooks → Wikiguides (or Wikimanuals), and perhaps merged with Wikiversity;
      • Wikisource → Wikiarchive (or Wikilibrary)
      • Wikivoyage → Wikiplaces (or Wikilocal)
