Deletion policy

Ok, I read it. I only put {{delete}} on speedy deletion candidates. ZKush is an example of one of the things on the speedy deletion article type list: "Pages that appear to be encyclopedia articles rather than meta-discussion." cleanup

Thank you for your clean-ups both for speedies and Wikiquote page. BTW, are you a sysop on a certain local wiki? I suppose you may want sysopship to deal with speedy candidates more efficiently, but not sure if you are sufficient to our promotion criteria. --Aphaia 06:16, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm not a sysop on any Wikimedia wiki, but I've been editing Wikipedia since May 2004. I just haven't felt the need to apply for adminiship. But since I've never been an admin I don't know what tools or abilities I'm missing out on. :P --Pmsyyz 17:43, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

In my opinion, they should be listed on META:RFD because it could be transwikied (not within the Wikimedia project though). ANYTHING could be transwikied to a non-Wikimedia Foundation wiki as there are wikis out there for just about anything. The anonymous user who created those articles isn't going to transwiki them. Are you? --Pmsyyz 19:23, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

inuktitut

there are actually 3 native speakers of inuktit including myself. and look at it again, there are many, many legitmate articles on there now, its really taken off since 2 new guys showed up. 127 articles as of yesterday, from just about 70 2 weeks ago.

Restoration wiki

Actually adding on those features to Commons was originally my first choice solution. A few things make that not so practical.

First, there are technical issues that would take less work to handle with a separate wiki. The file upload limit, for instance. Restorationists use very large files for a specific purpose, but the developers have set a limit of 100MB on uploads based upon general hardware capacity. Orignally I had proposed a 'large file uploader' toggle to allow serious work without flooding the equipment, but that would require more developer time than will be available in the near term. Also, it turns out TIFF file format has some security issues. These could be patched for general use, but again that takes more developer time.

If we wait and provide nothing until those issues get worked out, then an increasing backlog of work will go undocumented. As new volunteers arrive and leave, that translates into a mounting risk of significant work getting lost to the wiki process permanently. But if we set up a restoration wiki now, then eventually that wiki could be merged with Commons once the programming issues get resolved.

Another issue is an outstanding bug with .png thumbnailing. Durova 00:00, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

John Paul Jones, sorta. Files larger than 12.5MB do not display in .png format on WMF sites. And that's pretty small as restoration work goes.
