New projects pages cleanup[edit]

Firstly, you probably want to add the Special projects committee to the process somewhere. Secondly, I'm not convinced the date is the most useful thing to sort proposals by and it might make it harder to merge together 2 proposals from different dates. If you're intending to archive things from the current proposals page rather than delete them entirely, I don't think you need any specific timeframe and could just remove whatever is inactive. Hi Robert. To be honest, I find the list of projects at the Proposals for new projects pretty intimidating, and I don't know what to say about cleaning it up (that I didn't already briefly outline). Archiving could be ok - what are you going to do though? Are you going to go to each proposed project's page and see whether it has been edited recently, and archive it if it hasn't? This sounds like a pretty decent plan. If people then find their project in the archive and want to re-propose it, they can just copy it over into the live page - or however it's going to work. I wouldn't like to lose anything at the moment, though - each project represents a lightbulb flashing in someone's head and, if it is within the realms of wikimedia's work and if there are still people interested, then their vision could still become a reality. It would be bad if those ideas were just trashed - but I know you weren't going to do that ;-) Cormaggio @ 17:43, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and sorry, I didn't really answer your question explicitly - the special projects committee are possibly a week or more off from actually going through this ourselves, so I'd say you can go ahead with ideas, try it out, see if it works, and discuss changes somewhere visible (the Meta:project where you were is fine). If you want feedback from the SPC, you could use the talk page or just drop me a line on mine. I'll check in to see what I can do also. Cheers. Cormaggio @ 17:54, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New project proposal page[edit]

Hey, Robert, I think that new page is great. Sure, I think it needs minor jiggling around, but it's certainly a very good start to get proposals grouped usefully. Good work! Cormaggio @ 05:57, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Incubator[edit]

Your replacement idea for project proposals looks very good. However, I don't know whether you are aware of Wikimedia Incubator. It is a project which runs tests of new languages (on existing projects) and new projects. In the near future we aim to replace the page here at Meta with one of our own (although project description pages will remain here). Hopefully your idea can be combined with Incubator to make it easier for new projects to be tested and (maybe) created. Daniel () Check out Wikiscope!
