Report vandalism
[edit]Hello!
First of all, I want to congratulate you on winning the steward election! Wish you good work and more motivation :)
I would like to ask where I can report acts of vandalism? For example, a vandal created a page or a group of vandals damaged the page with numerous edits. If I don’t have administrator rights to delete a page or I don’t have rollback rights to roll back all edits at once, and there are no active admins or other members with higher rights on this wiki, what can I do? To whom and where can I report such acts of vandalism?
Thank you! Nurtenge (talk) 16:07, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Nurtenge, If your wiki lacks active admins and requires a block or page deletion, please report it to GSR. For instances of cross-wiki spamming/vandalism, you can request an account lock or global block (for IP) through SRG or #wikimedia-stewardsconnect. You can use User:Xiplus/TwinkleGlobal for easy reporting. Also, TwinkleGlobal will help you to revert multiple edits at once. Thank you for the message :) ~ Yahya (talk • contribs) 16:29, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

Email Response Time
[edit]Hello, what is the typical response time for emails sent to the Wikimedia Steward team? LittleStar Lies (talk) 17:44, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
- It depends on the topic, some are hours, some are months. Do you have a ticket number? — xaosflux Talk 17:48, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yup, I have the ticket number but prefer not to share it here publicly as I'm already working on reducing my digital footprint on Wikipedia. Is there any way to expedite the process? LittleStar Lies (talk) 17:53, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
- Has your problem been solved? ~ Yahya (talk • contribs) 14:51, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- No, I haven't received any response so far, apart from the ticket number. By the way, I also replied to that email with the ticket number. LittleStar Lies (talk) 15:01, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

Rollbacker possibilities
[edit]Hello! I am a rollbacker from Kazakh Wikipedia.
Rollbackers and other users who can rollback changes can rollback only the last user's changes on Kazakh Wikipedia. That is, for example, if one vandal made changes, then the second vandal immediately made changes, then rollbackers and other users who can rollback changes cannot rollback all the changes made by both vandals. They can only rollback the most recent user's changes. This is extremely inconvenient, because for example in the English Wikipedia rollbackers and other users who can rollback changes can rollback all the changes made by both or more users.
Who can I contact about this issue so that we can have this opportunity? -- Nurtenge (talk) 13:57, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, this is how the rollback feature works, and it operates in the same way across all Wikimedia projects. According to Wikipedia:Rollback, "The MediaWiki rollback user right provides users with a button that will revert, with a single click, the last edit to a given page, along with any consecutive previous edits made by the same editor to that page."
- You can use this user script to restore a specific revision from the page history. ~ Yahya (talk • contribs) 15:05, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- That is, no one can revert all the changes made by two or more users with one edit, right? I also often see in other Wikimedia projects that when rollbacking edits, users can write the reason for the rollback. We can't do it in Kazakh Wikipedia too -- Nurtenge (talk) 12:05, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, by default, no one can revert all changes made by two or more users with a single edit. However, this can be done using certain user scripts. Additionally, users cannot specify a rollback reason by default, but this also can be done using scripts. ~ Yahya (talk • contribs) 12:12, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

Dear Yahya, this is to let you know that I have reverted you deletion of this page on the local wiki per Meta-Wiki decisions on what's SPAM can't override local wiki-community decisions. Showing cross-wiki SPAM or steward action as reasons is irrelevant in these cases. In the future please avoid deleting local content in any wiki without discussions with local community. Thank you for understanding. Regards, ttWP admin en:Farhad Fatkullin - Frhdkazan (talk) 14:28, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Frhdkazan, I am well aware of where stewards can act and where they cannot. However, in this particular case, it seems I made a mistake. Generally, I do not delete pages unless they are clearly vandalism or spam. Thanks for noticing, and I apologize for the inconvenience I caused. But do you have any reason for not restoring the whole page history and only the last revision? ~ Yahya (talk • contribs) 15:35, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for noticing and showing me my mistaken partial history restoration. I would be grateful if you can restore the rest. This was the first time when I was restoring a page myself after a long while, and I might have done something wrong.
- Thank you for the Steward policy link. I'll read it critically before making my Meta-request to stop stewards, global admins, rollbackers & what not from systemically engaging in cultural imperialism by unfoundedly marking local content for speedy-deletion or even deleting it without discussions with locals first. I am quite confident the same can be said by other language communities from among Wikimedia Language Diversity, but generally we are too busy to notice or pay much attention to this abuse, as we are concentrating own limited resources to more urgent tasks, than fighting abuse by well-wishing Meta-folks from larger wikis. Frhdkazan (talk) 18:36, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Frhdkazan I can see that you have successfully restored the rest of the revisions.
- We stewards, along with other global groups like global sysops and global rollbackers, are here to help small wikis where there is no community or only a small one. We act only when we find clear vandalism or spam, and when global policies permit us to act in these specific cases.
- We protect your projects when you and other local sysops are not around. Mistakes can happen, but cases like this are very rare. However, you can't call us ‘abusers’ or label our actions as cultural imperialism. We are not imposing our culture on your projects. Please be respectful in discussions.
- Regarding the article you mentioned, I have already said it was not ‘clearly a spam article,’ and I agreed that this needed to be handled by the local community. I probably misunderstood, and I apologize for that. So why the rude message again? Why should we refrain from taking action on other projects as well? ~ Yahya (talk • contribs) 20:05, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
