Title: WikiCite and the Biodiversity Heritage Library
[edit]Abstract:
[edit]A co-presentation by Katie Mika and Siobhan Leachman that describes the addition of heritage literature from the Biodiversity Heritage Library to Wikidata and the potential connections across biology, ecology, and natural history related platforms and content. Katie will focus on the circumstances and motivations behind the addition of BHL metadata to Wikidata and the specific challenges and opportunities that are characteristic of library and special collections metadata. Siobhan will discuss a practical example of the use of BHL citations in various Wikimedia projects. She will take you through her workflow for her New Zealand endemic moths project, in particular adding citations and content from BHL as well as others to Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons.
