About the conference[edit]

This is the First WikiConference India, being organized in Mumbai.

  • It is intended to become an annual national flagship event for Wikipedia/Wikimedia in the country. It is meant to provide a common platform for all Indian Wikimedians to meet and share their views, discuss challenges and exchange useful tips, best practices and other information.
  • The Conference is open to participation from all nations, however, the Conference will have a very distinct Indian flavour and deal primarily with issues relating to India on Wikipedia, English and Indic language Wikipedia projects in the country, possible partnerships and collaborations and the Wikicommunity editing on these issues, whether in India or abroad.

Working Group[edit]

A Working Group is the organising committee of the Conference. It consists of 3 functionaries, 4 Advisors and several teams. The Working Group follows a non-hierarchical method of working - no one is boss. To help in managing the conference, several teams were created. The teams outlined the tasks related to the Conference that they will handle.

This page provides a list of Working Group members.

The teams have been given the independence to carve out their tasks and work on it together again through a mixed process of discussion, consensus or vote (in that order). Each team has a Point of Contact. This person is not like a team leader - no one in a team is boss. The Point of Contact (PoC) is only meant to make communication easier and put lesser stress on the high-traffic mailing list.

Members of the Working Group do not get any special benefits. Members are also expected to pay full registration fees.

How to join a specific team[edit]

Once you're in the Working Group, you can join the team of your choice. Do this by communicating with the Point of Contact, offlist or onlist. You can work in multiple teams, if you can help another team when help is sought, please feel free to talk to the Point of Contact and work with the team.
