Event Name
[edit]My Input
[edit]It was very exciting to be a Wiki Indaba in Tunis. And I participated in several capacities
- I was a member of the Programme Committee and we had lots of amazing discussions about the programme prior to attending.
- I presented Wiki Loves Africa, now and beyond that announced the 2017 winning photographs and started a discussion about the future of Wiki Loves X competitions, and WLA in particular.
- I also put up the Wiki Loves Africa exhibition in the lobby.
I was an active supporter and participant in the following conversations:
- Education in Africa Roundtable With Walaa, Kacie and others
- WikiFundi: The first step towards Wikipedia in Africa
- Gender Gap meetup: roundtable discussion and meeting with Web Foundation
- I was also fascinated to listen to all other presentations I could get to ...

Participant Connections
[edit]I did know quite a few people who were present and it was lovely to reconnect with them. But I was so excited to meet many who I hadn't met before. It was wonderful to meet the full Tunisian team, but there were new people from Chad and Tanzania, Mali and South Africa. It just shows how much the movement is growing across Africa and this gave me a lot of joy. The input from people from Europe and the US was also important.
I also love that Fayçal Rezkallah and ZMcCune (WMF) took time to make portraits of many of the participants. It is still lovely to see all sorts of people afterwards.
Outcome
[edit]I had meetings with the following people:
- Alex Stinton about the future of WikiAfrica Schools
- John Cummings about how we can expand the impact of Wiki Loves Africa, and can make the contributions of photo essays' easier (which he has since done !!!)
- Stephane about the challenges around buying, creation and distribution of WikiFundi
- Antoni about the various challenges facing Wikipedian contribution in Tanzania and Wiki Loves Women
- facilitated the transfer of WikiFundi to Rossouw (no shipping hassle)
- Announced the winners of Wiki Loves Africa 2017 contest with winners ...
- and many many many others ...!
