Details of the proposal
Project descriptionA place where poetry from all around the world can be published. Not only can well-known poetry or the work of well-known poets be collected but poetry written by anyone. Any poetry can be edited in constructive ways, creating a collaborative environment where poetry is changed and made better. Poems that are published elsewhere and final should obviously only be changed if clear mistakes are seen.
Is it a multilingual wiki?Well-known poems with translations already available will be made available in multiple language versions, and those that have no translation already available can be translated just as any other wiki translations are made.

  2. Strong support Strong support I personally believe that people should be able to build off others work, free of copyright laws. If people self-publish their own poetry, so be it. But others out there will improve on them. This idea has a lot of value and shouldn't have been rejected. Username142857 (talk) 10:00, 13 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

People opposed

[edit]
  1. Oppose Oppose I fear that this would just become a Wordpress type site where people will simply self-publish their own poetry. That seems drastically out-of-step with Wikimedia's goals. Additionally, don't notable public-domain poetry and poetry books already have a place at Wikisource? SecretName101 (talk) 23:13, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SecretName101's logic is flawed, as per my reply. Username142857 (talk) 09:56, 13 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    What's so bad about poetry? Username142857 (talk) 09:57, 13 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Strong oppose. Not under the WMF scope. Non-viable project. Poetry or any other fiction inherently lacks a policy framework to distinguish proper edits from improper edits. No viable basis for dispute resolution between editors who disagree on how to "improve" a poem. Alsee (talk) 12:26, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Improper edits are ones that don't fit with what the poem is about (like a horror movie reference in a poem about roses) and for dispute resolution, we can split it into two separate poems unless the edits meet these criteria:
syntax/grammatical or spelling fixes (If the spelling fixes are disputes between American English and British English, revert to whatever it was before the edit war.)
    improper edits (as defined above)
    Both. Username142857 (talk) 09:27, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
