Wiki Society of the Philippines/Projects/NSO-NSCB Support

Wikimedia Philippines participated in the 11th National Convention on Statistics which was organized by the National Statistical Coordination Board. During the convention, Wikimedia Philippines participants got to talk to representatives from the NSCB and the National Statistics Office.

Objective

The chapter plans to solicit tons of statistical data, current and historical, from both the NSO and the NSCB. This data can then be used to help improve articles in Wikipedia, most especially the articles on the various Local Government Units (LGUs) of the Philippines. Among the data that can be used are those on population, demographics, and local economy.

As of October 2010, the English Wikipedia article on Manila is the only one that has been given a Good article status. Negros Oriental used to be a Good article too but this status was removed since the article no longer met the rising criteria for Good articles.

There are over 1,500 articles about the regions, provinces, cities, and municipalities in the Philippines. Almost everyone is in dire need to attention and statistical data about various aspects of these places is very much welcome. Thus the plan to get the support of the NSO and the NSCB.
