Description

From July 2021 to December 2021, Whindanger will require a full time coordinator in order to ensure the good implementation of the project in 3 countries without affiliates: Afghanistan, Libya and Yemen, as well as 5 countries with Wikimedia affiliates: Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Mexico and Tanzania. All activities will be implemented in collaboration with local partners in the target countries. 50% of the coordination time will be paid. This compensation will enable the selected coordinator to free up their time, while maintaining the volunteer aspect of this work.

Compensation details

• Estimated work duration : 40 hours/week for 6 months.
• Compensated work duration: 20 hours/week for 6 months.
• Compensation: 20 USD/hour.

Tasks

The coordinator should have the ability to work individually or lead a team work for the following tasks:

• Intensive training about Wikimedia projects and events for the 3 partners in countries with no Wikimedia affiliates,
• Follow up and assistance of partners (Wikipedia and Wikidata editing, editathon organizing and monitoring, Upload on Wikimedia Commons, Jury tool usage, etc.),
• Coordination for the creation of the different categories, templates, contest pages, and programs on the Dashboard for each country,
• Coordination for the creation of graphic material and to design culturally sensitive calls for participation (logo, video animations, photos for FB and Instagram, etc.),
• Continuous communication with the participants during the contests, especially in the 3 countries without affiliates,
• Assistance of the jury during photography contests.
• Content preparation and coordination with the developer for the creation of Whindanger pages in the group website.

Eligibility

• Candidacy is open to members who have demonstrated a good activity in the group, by having attended at least two different meetings (including capacity building sessions) before 21.06.2021.

Selection criteria

The coordinator should have the ability to assist the team and partners throughout all the project activities, and work individually when needed. Therefore, all the criteria below are mandatory:

• Previous experience in coordinating complexe activities that include several Wikimedia projects, mainly Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.
• Previous experience in collaboration with external partners.
• Technical skills:

- Editing on Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons - Programs and Events Dashboard -Creation of contest pages and customized upload buttons on Wikimedia Commons -Montage jury tool -Making queries and visualizing data using Wikidata Query Service

• Languages: High level in spoken and written Arabic and English.
• Good knowledge about World Heritage.

Election process

After the self nomination period, board members will evaluate nominations during the next board meeting, and choose the coordinator based on the selection criteria. If one of the board members applies for this position, he/she will not be part of the meeting.

Candidates

Candidates are invited to introduce themselves and describe their experience based on the criteria above. All criteria are mandatory.

Nassima Chahboun

As an architect who have been involved in several UNESCO activities (example), I have a good knowledge in terms of World Heritage, including World Heritage in danger.
I also launched and coordinated activities that target several Wikimedia projects and tools, some of them in collaboration with external partners:

• WikiKsour: Creation of a wikidata powered website for traditional villages in North Africa (ksour.wiki), and organization of activities to enhance content (example: photography tour)
• MedinaStories: creation of a digital app based on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons about 10 WH sites ( activity report, UNESCO article)

As to languages, I have an advanced level in English and I am a native Arabic speaker.
Finally, working on the coordination of this project will not impact my responsibilities as the chair of the group and my involvement in the other activities.

Results

Done After reviewing the nomination by the 4 board members Yamen Bousrih, Habib Mhenni, Imelda Brazal and Benoit Soubeyran (Nassima Chahboun was not involved as she is applying for the position) and based on the qualifications required and the application received, they decided that Nassima Chahboun as the Whindanger Coordinator for the next 6 months.
