Wiki for Minorities/Minori-Ties Programme/Diasporas Project

The Diasporas Project is an initiative born under the auspices of Wiki for Minorities (WfMin) that aims to promote integrative interaction between nationals and immigrants, social tolerance towards foreigners and expatriates and reduce the problems of possible cultural clashes produced by intolerance, lack of empathy and understanding and xenophobia. Through free knowledge it is possible to demolish myths regarding the "other", understood as those who live outside their country of origin and are received by another human group, with all the changes and challenges that this entails in all areas of daily life: social, cultural, linguistic, religious, geographical, economic, etc.

Another of our tasks is to connect and reconnect diasporas with their culture also within the wiki movement: How? A good way to connect is to organize a specific working group on a particular country or diaspora and work on it. For example, a group on the Greek diaspora that connects all Greek immigrants around the world, added to the support that may exist from users and user groups who use Greek as a language. Following that line, we also cordially invite users and user groups who speak a language that is spoken by the diaspora or who have the same ethnic or national origin to contribute to their communities abroad, especially by making them visible in their local or native languages with content related to them, helping at the same time to demonstrate the cultural contribution of minorities to societies. These collaborative efforts and approaches help us eliminate barriers and borders in favor of free knowledge.

• December 2023: Editathon Hausa and Nigerian Diaspora, creation and translation of articles in English and Hausa about the Nigerian and Hausa community abroad.
