Wiki for Minorities/Minori-Ties Programme/East Timor Project

The East Timor Project is an initiative that emerged within Wiki for Minorities (WfMin) to make visible and increase the presence of East Timor (an independent Southeast Asian country since 2002) within our wiki movement. The country is a religious minority within its regional context, since it is one of the few countries with a majority Christian population both in Southeast Asia and also on the entire Asian continent. Their official languages are Portuguese and Tetun, so both are also languages that are part of a minority in the East.

Details

Activities can be carried out throughout the year. This involves working on content about East Timor in several of Wikimedia's projects, such as Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, Wikisource and Wiktionary.

Some of the topics to work on are the following:

• Heritage architecture and assets of cultural interest.
• Sociocultural aspects of Timorese life (history, demographics, media, cuisine, customs and traditions, etc.).
• Social problems of the country.
• Biographies about Timorese women (to reduce the gender gap).
• Religious buildings of East Timor (especially religious minorities and underrepresented spiritualities).

Activities

• A photo walk to photograph the sacred heritage of the city of Dili is being organized by user Diamantino Soares from East Timor.

Participants

•  Strong support I strongly support this project to work on the Portuguese Wikipedia and the Spanish Wikipedia in creating articles about East Timor, also creating elements in Wikidata. I put special emphasis on the increase in content in Portuguese given the high reading potential it has within East Timor itself, as well as serving as a connection with the Lusophony around the world.--Igallards7 (talk) 21:44, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
