The activity/project[edit]

Tell us about your proposed project. What will you get achieved with this time?
Describe why you think this project is important, and how the project is different from your normal volunteer contributions.

This project solely involves adding references from reliable sources to articles on the English Wikipedia. This will help improve the reliability of information and verification of information on the English Wikipedia and to the local language (Yoruba) Wikipedia.

A lot of Nigerian articles don't have enough and proper citations from reliable sources and we look to fill in the gap by sourcing for and getting credible sources for these articles. We look forward to adding over a thousand references to different Nigeria articles.

We would be working on a list of settlements (villages, towns and cities in Nigeria), by adding vital spatial information and references such as road codes, Zip codes, postal code, districts, when they were founded.

We intend to work on articles in this category and lists

The reference material to be used are government data which are not readily available and sorted, we would be making use of data from the Nigerian Postal Service, Nigerian Bureau of Statistics. This reference materials are not readily available online and accessible to use, it involves taking extra efforts and time to study and extract the required, relevant and necessary data.

All team members will be working on the same activity as well.

Describe how you (and, if applicable, your team)are able to achieve this project. What skills, expertise, and motivation do you have which will enable you to succeed?

I'm an undergraduate student at the University of Ilorin and the leader of the Wikimedia Club at the University.[1]. I have been actively contributing to Wikipedia since 2018, and my team members are active members of the Wikimedia Club and have been actively editing Wikipedia for over two years.

African content on Wikipedia in certain cases lack quality and sufficient references, it's our desire to improve this.

Proposed activity dates[edit]

When will you undertake this project? (This may be two, three or four days. Not necessarily consecutive). The latest allowable date is 1 May 2021.

Two weekends (Saturday and Sunday) in November and December 2020.

Strong support This scholarship will enable us close the existing content gap on Nigerian villages, towns and cities, It is also a major step in finding or accessing hidden data or informations about Nigerian communities. I am in full support of this great project to bridge the gap concerning Nigeria on the English Wikipedia. Nigeria is the seventh populous country in the word and it will be great to ensure we fellow Nigerians take up projects that will make readers of Nigeria-related content more reliable. Support A a lot of foreigners face challenges when trying to understand the culture and location of cities and villages in Nigeria due to lack of information. Hence, this project is justifyable and extremely important as it will serve the large number of investors and other individuals who come into Nigeria yearly.
