Project Plan
[edit]Activities
[edit]What Wikimedia movement affiliate do you represent?
What needs are you requesting funding for to support your community’s participation at Wikimania? Please review following eligible activities and expenses below, and write below any that will be included in your activities.
- Childcare services (or similar family services) to support Wikimania participation
- Data packages to distribute to Wikimania participants
- Administrative or operational costs for to distribute funds to community members, such as transfer fees
- Small hardware expenses to support access (such as webcams, microphones, head/earphones)
- Note: Requests for computers, laptops, tablets, and other personal devices are not eligible.
- Translation services for a Wikimania session
- Video production support for pre-recorded Wikimania sessions (such as equipment or space)
- In-person meetups that coincide with Wikimania activities (food, beverage, meeting space)
- Post-Wikimania meetups resulting from having attended Wikimania (food, beverage, meeting space)
- We have created an application form for the scholarship where the individual will select which of the eligible expenses they will be using the scholarship for.
If you are requesting more than 1000 USD to distribute to your community, please provide additional detail on how you will distribute these funds. Please provide a summary explaining the following:
- how you will invite community members to apply for funding: We will send out communications to our community with a link to the form to apply for funds.
- the criteria you will use to determine eligibility: We've created a rubric with the following criteria:
- Is the applicant a member of the community? 1+
- Is the applicant applying for funds for relevant expenses? 1+
- Is the applicant applying for a reasonable amount of funds for their region? 1+
- Is the applicant from a region with less support from Wikimedia Chapters? 1+
- Is the applicant from a non-Western country? 1+
- If insufficient funds are available, would it be reasonable to give partial funding?
- the processes or services you will use to distribute funds: We have drafted communications to our community with a link to the form to apply for funds. We'll then use the above rubric to asses available funds and then distribute accordingly.
Outcomes
[edit]Please provide a range or estimate for the number of participants the funding will support. It is OK if this is estimate is based on limited information, but we want to have an idea of how your activities will support community participation in Wikimania. Some examples:
- 3-5 participants will receive childcare support to support their participation at Wikimania.
- 10 participants will receive hardware support
- 1-2 post-Wikimania meetups will be funded
- 10-20 participants will receive data packages to support their participation at Wikimania
Since our community is diverse and global, it is hard for us to predict what types of needs there will be specifically. We designed the form so that folx can select more than one reason (if necessary) to request funding to enable them to participate in Wikimania 2021. In all we received 25 applications, with 22 applicants (88%) based in the Global South.
- 10 applicants (40%) applied for funds to support childcare support.
- 17 applicants (68%) applied to buy data packages
- 17 applicants (68%) applied to purchase small hardware
- 6 applicants (24%) applied for translation support
- 5 applicants (20%) applied for video production support
- 7 applicants (28%) applied to organise an in-person meet-up
- 10 applicants (40%) applied to organise a post-Wikimedia meet-up
- 1 applicant (4%) applied to rent a space
Budget
[edit]How you will use the funds you are requesting? Please use the following categories for your expenses. Don’t forget to include a total amount, and update this amount in the Probox at the top of your page too!
- Childcare services (or similar family services)
- Data packages to distribute to Wikimania participants
- In addition to a total budget, please indicate the average data cost per person who will receive funds for this need.
- Administrative or operational costs for distributing funds
- Small hardware expenses to support access
- Translation services for a Wikimania session
- Video production support
- Meetups during or after Wikimania activities (food, beverage, meeting space)
- As mentioned previously, we are designing the form so that folx can select more than one reason (if necessary) to request funding to enable them to participate in Wikimania 2021.
- We are making funding requests available in amounts between $20 USD and 500$ USD, totaling in $2000 USD. Of the 25 applicants, funds requested ranged from $30 USD to $500 USD.
- To fund 100% of the funding needs the total is $8450 USD. 68% of the applicants need funding before Wikimania in order to participate.
- Whereas we wish we could 100% fund all requests, we recognize that funds simply are not available. We're proposing funding requests at 50% for Art+Feminism Regional Ambassadors and event organizers and 25% requests for Art+Feminism event attendees (and funding 100% for requests under $50 USD). If the committee has more funds available, we'd love to increase these percentages.
- $3210 directly to A+F community
- $90 to offset transfer and wire fees (A+F will absorb the anticipated balance of fees)
