Hausa Wikimedians UserGroup is seeking this grant support to help provide space and logistics support for members of our Wikimedia community to participate fully in the Wikimania 2022 activities during the main Wikimania Conference.

What Wikimedia movement affiliate do you represent?

How will the funding requested support your community’s participation at Wikimania?
Please review following eligible activities and expenses below, and write below any that will be included in your activities.

  • Childcare services (or similar family services) to support Wikimania participation
  • Data packages to distribute to Wikimania participants
  • Administrative or operational costs for to distribute funds to community members, such as transfer fees
  • Small hardware expenses to support access (such as webcams, microphones, head/earphones)
    Note: Requests for computers, laptops, tablets, and other personal devices are not eligible.
  • Translation services for a Wikimania session
  • Video production support for pre-recorded Wikimania sessions (such as equipment or space)
  • In-person meetups that coincide with Wikimania activities (food, beverage, meeting space)
  • Printed artwork, conference swag/merchandise for event participants

The Hausa Wikimedians UserGroup will like to support its community members from two base regions to participate in the Wikimania 2022 watch party during the Wikimania Conference days.

  • Data packages to distribute to Wikimania participants
  • Administrative or operational costs for to distribute funds to community members, such as transfer fees
  • Small hardware expenses to support access (such as webcams, microphones, head/earphones)
  • In-person meetups that coincide with Wikimania activities (food, beverage, meeting space)
  • Printed artwork, conference swag/merchandise for event participants

If you are planning to distribute funds to community members, such as by running a local scholarship program, please provide additional detail on how you will organize this process.

  • how you will invite community members to apply for funding,
  • the criteria you will use to determine eligibility, and
  • the processes or services you will use to distribute funds.

This description does not need to be comprehensive, but should generally explain the process for how community members will receive funds or support to participate in Wikimania. If you are not distributing funds to community members, please write N/A below.

  • Promotional posters and messages will be prepared and shared with our community members and public at large to explain the process and invite people to participate.
  • Our technical team will prepare registrations form where interested participants can sign-up and request for data support package.
  • Applications will be considered based on the answers provided, applicant's online and offline activity for Wikimedia would also be factored as well as demonstrated need and also

the overall number of applications received. New participants with demonstrated interest and need as well as female applicants will also be given special consideration.

Collaboration with Nigerian Commons Photographers Usergroup

The Hausa Wikimedians User Group will be collaborating with Nigerian Commons Photographers Usergroup to organize the Wikimania 2022 events.

  • This partnership will give room for knowledge-sharing and interaction between leaders and members of both groups.
  • It will also help in fostering mutual understanding and lay foundation for future strategic partnership between the groups
  • Partnership will also avail our members opportunity to know more about the focus area of either groups and help in recruiting members with such interest.
  • It will provide room for brainstorming and discussion challenges facing each group and also ways of collectively finding solutions for them through formal collaborations.
  • Collaboration will strengthen our local communities socially and in sharing values that underpin our shared mission.
  • The collaboration is also opportunity to discuss possibility of longer-term plannings of partnership between the groups, as well as the possible problems that can arise and ways to resolve them.

Outcomes[edit]

Please provide a range or estimate for the number of participants the funding will support.
It is OK if this is estimate is based on limited information, but we want to have an idea of how your activities will support community participation in Wikimania. Some examples:

  • 3-5 participants will receive childcare support to support their participation at Wikimania.
  • 10 participants will receive hardware support
  • 10-20 participants will receive data packages to support their participation at Wikimania
  • 20-40 participants will receive hardware support across the two regions.
  • 50-60 participants will receive data packages to support their participation at Wikimania across the two regions.
