How will the funding requested support your community’s participation at Wikimania?
Please review following eligible activities and expenses below, and write below any that will be included in your activities.
- Childcare services (or similar family services) to support Wikimania participation
- Data packages to distribute to Wikimania participants
- Administrative or operational costs for to distribute funds to community members, such as transfer fees
- Small hardware expenses to support access (such as webcams, microphones, head/earphones)
- Note: Requests for computers, laptops, tablets, and other personal devices are not eligible.
- Translation services for a Wikimania session
- Video production support for pre-recorded Wikimania sessions (such as equipment or space)
- In-person meetups that coincide with Wikimania activities (food, beverage, meeting space)
- Printed artwork, conference swag/merchandise for event participants
To ensure maximum participation of OFWA members,these are the following services we will need:
- Childcare services (or similar family services) to support Wikimania participation (by members of OFWA)
- Data packages to distribute to Wikimania participants ( members of OFWA)
- Administrative or operational costs for to distribute funds to community members, such as transfer fees, transportation of member
- Translation services for a Wikimania session
- Small hardware expenses to support access to the conference (such as projectors)
- In-person meetups that coincide with Wikimania activities (food, beverage, meeting space)
If you are planning to distribute funds to community members, such as by running a local scholarship program, please provide additional detail on how you will organize this process.

- the criteria you will use to determine eligibility, and
- the processes or services you will use to distribute funds.
This description does not need to be comprehensive, but should generally explain the process for how community members will receive funds or support to participate in Wikimania. In our quest to invite community members to apply for funding, we will create awareness by sharing short videos on our social media platforms, mailing lists, our official website, and messaging platforms inviting our members to apply for funding to be a part of the conference. Also, we will create flyers and posters and share them on the aforementioned platforms. These posts will come along with google forms that will entail the application details.
Depending on the number of slot available for the scholarship we will ensure that community members who are not able to attend the satellite wikimania events are prioritized for the scholarships and should be OFWA community members within Ghana.. In addition, in order to ensure participation from other regions, we will have a quota for applicants for each region to ensure fair distribution of the opportunity. Due to our large numbers, we will make it known that priority will be given to those who apply first. We will also let then provide a tangible reason as to why they need the scholarship and commit to submitting a report after the conference.
Outcomes[edit]
Please provide a range or estimate for the number of participants the funding will support.
It is OK if this is estimate is based on limited information, but we want to have an idea of how your activities will support community participation in Wikimania.
Some examples:
- 3-5 participants will receive childcare support to support their participation at Wikimania.
- 10 participants will receive hardware support
- 10-20 participants will receive data packages to support their participation at Wikimania
- ...At the end of the conference we are looking at: Providing approximately sixty (80) members in four (4)hubs across four (4) regions in Ghana to attend a Wikimania satellite event this year. This will consist of both old and new participants of Wikimania.
- Providing the opportunity for thirty (30) new wikimania participants and (20) old participants the opportunity to attend and experience Wikimania.
- Introducing our Community to a broader Wikimedia community, exposing them to projects, and opportunities in the movement.
- Encouraging networking and mentorship with other Wikimedians from across the movement.
- Supporting five (5) participants with Childcare support and the opportunity to attend the conference.
