As of April 30, there are 161 registered members in all 7 active Wikiclubs (Goris, Ddmashen, Lernapat, Kirants, Koghb, Hatsik, and Jermuk). Wikiclub members continued the wikification of materials from the “Agricultural Encyclopedia” (“Armenian Encyclopedia” Publishing House, 2015) which was released under the Creative Commons BY-SA 3.0 license. Wikiclub members either created the missing items of the corresponding pages in Wikidata or linked the created articles with already existing items. Within the frames of this project 36 articles with a volume of 62,250 bytes were created in April. Since the launch of the project 496 articles, 1,268,747 bytes have been contributed to Armenian Wikipedia. The project will continue in May, as well. In April, “Ahead of the Euro 2024” "Women's Month in Wikiclubs" project was initiated specifically for Wikiclubs, during which the Wikiclub members translated articles about the UEFA Euro 2024 to be held in Germany from June 14 to July 14. In the course of this multi-stage competition project, Wikiclub members translated articles related to the European football championships from other language Wikipedias ​​into Armenian (it can be biographies of European champions, football players who participated in the Euros, referees, coaches, European championships, qualifying tournaments, teams, stadiums, articles related to official balls, etc.). Thanks to this project, the number of articles about European football has increased on Armenian Wikipedia. Within the framework of the 1st stage of the project, 19 Wikiclub members created 113 articles with a volume of 1,724,894 bytes. The project will have 4 stages and will continue until the end of July. Each stage of the project is competitive. The winner receives a gift and a certificate provided by Wikimedia Armenia, and 4 other participants receive certificates.

Wikiedits[edit]

Throughout April, out of 161 Wikiclub members 60 contributed to Wikipedia. In total, they have created 213 articles and made 886 edits with a volume of 2,946,581 bytes. During the month of April, 46 Wikiclub members contributed to Wikidata, by making 228 edits in total.

Other events[edit]

Besides editing, the following events were organized in Wikiclubs:

  • The month has been quite active for Koghbi Wikiclub. An intra-club edit-a-thon dedicated to food was organized. The winner of the edit-a-thon contest was awarded with a certificate. April 18 is the International Day of Preservation of Monuments. The club also reflected on that day by organizing an edit-a-thon, within the framework of which several articles were created. In April, the Wikiclub added a clock with wiki motifs, made by the club members.
  • The members of the Kirants Wikiclub have started a series of informative seminars for children of the same age: the first slideshow, which was presented by three of the club members, was on the topic "Benefits and harms of computer games". The next topic will be "Harmful effects of smoking".

Collaborations with universities[edit]

A Wikipedia training with Brusov State University students[edit]

Within the framework of the cooperation between Brusov State University and Wikimedia Armenia, a group of 18 students of the University's Translation Department, who are carrying out coursework, revisited the Wikimedia Armenia office in April, took part in the Wikipedia training recalling the knowledge they had previously acquired. As a coursework students create articles on psychological stress, political science, sociology, classical literature, feminism, discourse analysis, translation psychology, and multimedia.

YSU Ijevan Branch students’ internship[edit]

On April 22, the internship which started on March 7 with part-time students from the Department of Armenian History and Social Sciences of the Faculty of Humanities of the YSU Ijevan Branch came to an end. Throughout the month of April three training sessions were carried out with these students during which Wikimedia Armenia employees taught the participants how to contribute to Wikipedia, how to create and publish articles, and answered their questions. After making changes to articles in their sandboxes during the training sessions, several articles on historical topics were published.

During the internship 15 participants altogether created 21 articles with a volume of 379,640 bytes.

CEE Spring 2024[edit]

In April, Armenian Wikipedia editors actively joined the work of creating articles about Central and Eastern European countries within the framework of the CEE spring 2024 competition. During the first 40 days of the competition, starting from March 21, 17 participants of the Armenian Wikipedia created 430 articles on 19 topics from the lists proposed by 33 countries.

Wikitraining with the employees of the National Library of Armenia[edit]

Within the framework of cooperation with the National Library of Armenia and Wikimedia Armenia, in anticipation of the "Library Week" initiative held in Armenia, organized a regular wikitraining at the office of Wikimedia Armenia. During the training, several researchers of the library improved their editing skills on Wikipedia with the help of Wikimedia Armenia employees, they also reviewed recently created articles, improved skills in using wiki tools. Cooperation is continuous.

Financial-Economic Wikimonth 2024[edit]

From April 24 to May 28, 2024, "Wikimedia Armenia" jointly with ABCFinance.am / Central Bank of Armenia organized the "Financial-Economic Wikimonth 2024" project-competition for editing financial and economic articles. The purpose of the competition is the comprehensive presentation of the financial and economic system of Armenia and the continuous update of financial and economic content on Armenian Wikipedia. The participants will create and improve articles on financial-economic topics throughout the month. Before the launch of the project Wikimedia Armenia opened a call for applications. 124 people applied to the projects, out of which 65 are experienced editors and 59 are beginners. For the latter Wikimedia Armenia organized special training sessions, both online and offline at Wikimedia Armenia’s office, during which newcomers created their pages on Wikipedia, got familiar with the history of Wikipedia, the structure of articles, main tools of editing, as well as all nuances of creating and publishing articles on Wikipedia. Throughout and after the training sessions, newcomers created articles. In total, 17 newcomers took part in the sessions.

Wikiexcursion[edit]

On April 29, the wikiexcursion (as a prize) of the 2 winning groups of the Winter Youth Wikicamp took place, in which 22 campers participated. During the Winter Youth Wikicamp, the 1st group was in first place with the results of sports, intellectual games and cultural events, and the 4th group won with the results of Wikipedia editing. Vardabluri Lakes, Hnevank, Arevatsag Canyon in Tavush region were chosen as destinations of the excursion. During the wikiexcursion, participants took photos that will be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons for the Wiki Loves Earth and Wiki Loves Monuments contests.

Voskehat village school students’ visit to Wikimedia Armenia[edit]

On April 18, seniors students from the School named after Khrimyan Hayrik in Voskehat village, Aragatsotn province, paid a visit to Wikimedia Armenia’s office. Accompanied by the director and deputy director of the school 14 students took a tour of the office. Afterwards, Wikimedia Armenia employees presented the history of Wikipedia, five pillars of the free encyclopedia, as well as introduced the students to the basics of registering and creating articles.

The school plans to join the Wikimedia movement and contribute to Armenian Wikipedia. In this regard, preliminary arrangements were made.
