During my adventure as a Wikimedian I have found out that whenever Wikipedians get to meet and talk a very special wiki magic occurs. And while it is easy to see how this works for large conferences the importance and impact of small wiki-meetups can be easily overlooked. I would like to tell you how regularly holding local meetings (even if only for 3 people) can help your community and your projects. I would also like to share with you my experience in organizing and co-organizing local meetings in Poznań (including my favorite wiki-barbecues). And tell you how those small meetings brought big impact for Wikimedia Polska.

Expected outcomes[edit]

  • the audience will understand the importance of strong local communities and the way organizing wiki-meetups can help them grow
  • the audience will get inspired to organize local wiki-meetups
  • the audience will know how to do it with little or no money
  • Wikimedians from different communities will share their experience in organizing or attending small wiki-meetings

Duration (without Q&A)[edit]

  • 15-20 minutes

Specific requirements[edit]

  • I will be taking part in all sessions related to CEE Spring
