- Abstract (up to 100 words)
- A quite sad, yet passionate editorial-style talk on the effects and costs of the Wikimedia community's (1) superficial focus on performative transparency, (2) habit of using veto power rather than engaging constructive discussion, and (3) the a priori rejection of external experts in the (presumed) pursuit of the movement's goals – and other issues around the lack of trust. Based mostly on 2 years of experiences with the Polish Wikimedia community, though this speaker suspects at least some of these issues are universal.
- How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region of Central and Eastern Europe?
- Either we all find a way to break out of this overwhelming bias for the status quo clothed in the guise of cries for faux transparency – or the global Wikimedia project will enter into a phase of stagnation, followed by decline over the next couple of decades. Benefits may include highlighting existing passivity in the approach to spreading free knowledge, surfacing issues I encountered as learning opportunities, and perhaps starting a conversation about the gap in understanding and thinking that exists between "the community" and the organizational side of Wikimedia.
- Do you plan to pre-record a video with a presentation?
- No.

- DrMel (talk) 07:28, 3 October 2021 (UTC) (wikiBlind/WikiKind) This is an essential conversation about the future of the movement and how we better address the interpersonal problems choking our progress. We have ways of fixing these systems. We must discuss them as openly as possible. How can we build, maintain and restore trust? How do other organizations do it? Thank you Lukasz, for finding the energy to propose this session. I’ll be there.
