  • Coming up: Happy Birthday WMCH

Did you know that on May 14th, WMCH will celebrate it's 10th anniversary? What a festive year, between Wikipedia's 15th anniversary and WMCH's 10th celebration, there are many exciting milestones happening! Do you have any idea how it all started for the association ? More will be following on the d-day taking us back through memory lane.

  • Creative workshop: Save the date for July 9th

Save the date for the 9th of July to participate to a WMCH idea workshop. The idea is for the community to collaboratively shape the plans for the upcoming years of Wikimedia CH. More information will follow in the next newsletter but if you want to join us, please be sure to already save the date!

  • Wikimedia Conference in Berlin

The Wikimedia Conference is the annual meeting of all Wikimedia organizations (Wikimedia chapters, thematic organizations, user groups, and the Wikimedia Foundation), as well as other committees to discuss the future of the Wikimedia movement in terms of collaboration, structures and organizational development. Our new Executive Director - together with a board and a staff member - attended the conference in Berlin mid April in order to participate in the worldwide dialogues, exchange ideas as well as best practices.   • Youth Hackathon

The 22th May Wikimedia CH will organize together with SUPSI ((University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland)), ATED4kids and the team of Wikimania Esino Lario e summer school dedicated to the children and young people. The event will be a single day with workshops in the morning about gaming with Wikipedia, Scratch, Code.org, cryptography, in the afternoon there will be a big exhibition with drones, 3D printers and Raspberries and at the end a treasure hunt with prizes. The page of the event is in the Italian Wikipedia. We accept reservations writing also to info@wikimedia.ch.

Wiki Loves Earth logo
  • Wiki Loves Earth is back

The nature photo contest Wiki Loves Earth has now kicked off in Switzerland and will take place until the 7th of June. This year’s edition will focus on natural parks, mountains as well as small lakes in Switzerland in order to build further content on our local natural heritage. All the information pertaining to the photo contest may be found: here. Please get in touch if you would like to participate in the selection of photos, communication or organization of local events! We're very glad to hear from you via info@wikimedia.ch.

Wikimania Esino Lario[edit]

The registration for Wikimania is now closed. For your information, tickets will still be available for daily visits. The event has received a good acceptance by the community in terms of proposals for meetups and discussions. The program will be officially announced in the coming weeks. See you soon in Esino Lario.

  • WikiWeek at the University of Basel

At the beginning of the month of April, 35 students and 4 Professors/researchers of the University of Basel participated in the WikiWeek. They edited articles in the area of Zoology and Evolution, in several language versions of the online encyclopedia Wikipedia. Among others, this wonderful article about the grey kestrel was created in the german-speaking Wikipedia. To have a look at the other articles which have ben edited or created, please visit the project page. Last but not least we would like to extend our warm gratitude to the volunteer/user: Lantus for his tremendous support during this WikiWeek.

Micro-Grants are a means for members of the community to ask for a financial support - from 1 up to 500 CHF - for their micro-projects or activity, that has an impact on Wikimedia projects. If you would like to apply for such a micro-grant, please get in touch with your community liaison or submit your request directly online on this page.
