Session 1

Education partnership by Sandeep Kaur[edit]

This occurs when two parties come together for the common welfare of an institution or to improve student learning.

  • Education partnership is designed for schools, colleges and universities
  • To ensure quality based education
  • And enhance learning

Education partnership includes:

  • Cooperation
  • Collaboration
  • Communication

Goals of Education Partnership

  1. Generating, analyzing and sharing successful collaboration strategies.
  2. Improving the instruction of institutions
  3. Leading exploration on local area organizations and best practices.

Session 2

Strategy on running Wikimedia communities by kan Ui-iu[edit]

The key points I noted are;

  • Independence of the communities when it comes to organizing a Wiki event
  • Communities can as well participate in a local event organized by Wikimedia
  • They can also participate in international cross-wiki activities

The Wikimedia community can as well request for funding under:

  1. Rapid fund
  2. Conference and Event fund
  3. General support fund

When there is no activity, each community may still need a role of a facilitator. The facilitator can indeed lead to the participation of members of the communities

Session 3

Copyright and the Wikis roundtable: Knowing your rights when using copyrighted material for the public good by Douglas Scott[edit]

Copyright is typically thought of as a limited, legally sanctioned monopoly. Two important examples of limitations and exceptions to copyright are the fair use doctrine found in the United States, and the fair dealing doctrine found in many other common law countries. Other more fundamental boundaries of copyright are caused by thresholds of originalities l, a threshold below which objects cease to be copyrightable, the idea-expression dichotomy, the public domain and the effect of Crown copyright. Even copyright maximalists might interpret these as defining copyright, rather than being "limitations" or "exceptions" to it. In addition copyright can only protect the artist's expression of his/her work and not the ideas, systems, or factual information conveyed in it. Fair use of the Copyright law includes commentary, search engines, criticism, parody, news reporting, research, and scholarship. Fair use provides for the legal, unlicensed citation or incorporation of copyrighted material in another author's work under a four-factor test.
