- How did you attend Wikimania (virtually or in-person)?
I attended virtually via YouTube since Pheedloop had a lot of technical difficulties. I also travelled from Mbale(Eastern Uganda) to Kampala for the in-person event organized by the Wikimedia Community Usergroup Uganda at Capital Kitchen, Thobani Center.
- What did you spend the scholarship funds on?
I spent most of the funds on transport to and fro the event venue and also purchased data bundles that enabled me attend the online sessions.
- Takeaways – choose 3 specific Wikimania sessions you attended and describe your key take-aways per session.
1. Batch uploading to Wikimedia commons using OpenRefine - It was a great opportunity to learn about OpenRefine and how I can use it to batch upload Wikimedia files and also solve other data science problems. 2. Wikimedia Language Diversity Hub - It was a great opportunity to learn about what the Steering committee of this initiative have achieved so far in advocating for small and underrepresented languages. My main hope is if we can have all languages in Uganda documented on Wikipedia 3. Wikivibrance - Got to learn more about the WikiVibrance project from our very own @douglaseru talking about how youth events are recognized and commemorated in the movement.
- How did you connect with other people during Wikimania 2022? How did you celebrate at Wikimania 2022?
It was hard to connect with people via Pheedloop, however, the in-person event in Kampala helped me to meet a good number of people who are part of the Wiki ecosystem in Uganda. As a jury member, it was also a good opportunity to meet some of the photographers whose photos I've been judging. I had a great time, we had amazing food and later a cake to celebrate the event. Great appreciation to the organizers, they did amazing work!
