How did you attend Wikimania (virtually or in-person)?

I attended wikimania both virtually and inperson; Virtually, i attended on platforms like pheedloop, Jitsi meet, zoom and some sessions on youtube. I also was part of the in person event in Kampala where i got a chance to meet fellow Wikimedians in Uganda and it was an amazing experience.

What did you spend the scholarship funds on?

I mostly spent the scholarship fund on internet data. But i also bought small gadgets like earphones to help enjoy wikimania sessions without distructions. I also spent a considerable amount on meals in between wikimania sessions.

1.Education and partnership;

In this session, i got to learn about what Wikimedia is doing in the field of education. We were taken through strategies on how to generate, analyze and share successful collaboration, how to improve the instruction of instructors and educatortraining projects to encourage mpre community involvement, and exploring local area organizations and best practices to improve education.

The session also introduced us to "Reading wikipedia in the classrooms" where we got understanding on how information is produced, how content is accessed and evaluated online and understanding the biases and knowledge gaps in the information to be consumed.

2.Getting started with wiki loves monuments;

In this session, we were introduced to how this annual gloabal federated low barrier photo competion that is wiki loves monuments is run. Facilitated, organized and funded.

We were also lectured on the main goals of this photo competion which include among others;

freely documenting and raising awareness of built cultural heritage, increasing contributions to wikimedia projects such as wiki commons and bolstringlocal Wikimedia communities.

3.Digital security basics;

In this session we learnt the basic procedures/actions we can undertake to protect our identities online and how to evade invaders of our online presence.

In this sesion, i learnt how to protect my online identity, how to handle my passwords by changing them oftenly, how to create strong passwords, how to regain control of my account incase its compromised, how to use VPNs and how to angage in safer browsing.

We also dug deep into a plethora of issues regarding privacy. All the knowledge gained will buttress my security online.

How did you connect with other people during Wikimania 2022? How did you celebrate at Wikimania 2022?

Virtually, i connected with international Wikimedians through the pheedloop groups and lobby chat. I aslo interacted with Wikimedians during break away sessions on zoom.

I also attended an inperson event in Kampala where i met members of the wikimedia community usergroup Uganda and enjoyed the wikimania experience together. We had alot of enjoyable sessions and alot of fun especially the quiz about wikimedia. We also celebrated by cutting cake. Overall wikimania was fun.
