Algemeen Directeur

The Chief Executive Officer is the senior staff officer of the Wikimedia Foundation, overseeing the operations of the Foundation and its professional staff. The Chief Executive Officer reports to the Board of Trustees and is supported by the Office of the CEO.

The CEO is responsible for running the business side of the Wikimedia Foundation, engaging with communities to inform decision making, and representing the Wikimedia Foundation to the broader public.

Bernadette Meehan is sinds januari 2026 de Chief Executive Officer (CEO) van de Wikimedia Foundation.

Bernadette came to the Wikimedia Foundation having served as U.S. Ambassador to Chile. She graduated from Boston College and worked at J.P. Morgan, helping design one of its first web-based client platforms. She joined the Department of State in 2004 as a Foreign Service Officer with postings in Colombia, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates, and also in a variety of roles in Washington, D.C. at the Department of State and the White House National Security Council (NSC). She then taught classes at Georgetown University for a year.

In 2017 she helped President and Mrs. Obama as they launched the Obama Foundation, and led the design of leadership development programs across Africa, Asia-Pacific, South Asia, Europe, and Latin America. In 2022, she returned to public service as U.S. Ambassador to Chile, a country she first visited as a 17-year-old.

Het kantoor van de CEO ondersteunt de CEO in diens rol, samen met elke afdeling van de Foundation en met de Raad van Bestuur. We ontmoeten regelmatig gemeenschapsleden op gemeenschapsconferenties en 1:1-gesprekken. Meerjarenplanning

De jaarlijkse planning van de Foundation is gebaseerd op meerjaren- en meergeneratieve strategieën. Het kantoor van de CEO werkt samen met leiders in de organisatie, de beweging en het publiek om zich te binden aan drie gebieden van planning die volgens ons nodig zijn om onze missie blijvend te bevorderen.

Jaarplan

Elk jaar publiceert de Foundation een Jaarplan dat ons werk samenvat in vier hoofddoelen. Het kantoor van de CEO beheert en leidt het planningsproces, dat gemeenschapsgesprekken omvat om ideeën en feedback te horen.

Bestuurszaken

Het kantoor van de CEO biedt hulp aan de Wikimedia Foundation Raad van Bestuur en biedt ondersteuning op uitvoerend niveau aan de Bestuurders.

De Wikimedia Foundation, Inc is een liefdadigheidsorganisatie zonder winstoogmerk die zich inzet voor het stimuleren van de groei, ontwikkeling en distributie van vrije, meertalige inhoud, en voor het kosteloos ter beschikking stellen van de volledige inhoud van deze op wiki gebaseerde projecten aan het publiek.
