  • Bonygaithori, trainer: a journalist interested in local languages and Gikuyu
  • Yug, advisor: will help in monitoring the project from start to end of the event.

Participants[edit]

Users who can translate English words into Gikuyu words

Targeted number:

  • 10 participants
  • 2000~4000 English-Gikuyu bilingual entries

Gikuyu dictionary translation workshop, Kenya[edit]

The project will run for one month. We shall introduce participants on how to translate English words to Gikuyu words. The event seeks to raise awareness and provide capacity building on the Gikuyu dictionary. Ngangaesther and Maheakim will do the training and orientation for the participants, and guide new editors who will join up on various occasions.

Week Days or hours Event type Description
1st 5 days = 4hrs In person We shall guide the participants on registration of Wikipedia user accounts, orientation to understand how Wikipedia works, and the purpose of the project we are working on. We shall also train participants on how to translate Wikipedia article to Gikuyu language.
2nd 5 days = 2hrs Online The particpants will begin the translation. I shall set a target of the words that participants are supposed to translate in a day (a minimum of fifty words). l shall further be having evening online meetings with the particpants to recap on the day's work.
3rd 5 days = 4hrs In person We shall have a physical attendance meeting with the participants, to continue editing. This will give us more time to cover a bigger part of the assignment. The venue shall be at Kenya National Library Murang'a.
4th 3 days = 6h Online Monday–Wednesday: Guided online editing.
2 days = 6h In person Thursday, Friday: Physical attendance meetings to finalise the editing and share the experiences gained and brainstorm on how to create awareness in Kenya about other native languages joining the movement.
