Wikimedia Japan-Malaysia Friendship is a project organized by Wikimedians who are active in the Malaysian or Japanese Wikimedia community. This project aims to enrich Wikimedia contents about Malaysia or Japan and strengthen the collaboration between the two communities.

Before the launch[edit]

Malaysian Wikimedian Taufik Rosman (User:Tofeiku) and Japanese Wikimedian Eugene Ormandy met at Wikimania 2023 and hit it off. After the event, on September 1, they launched this project.

Vision[edit]

  • Enriching Wikimedia contents about Malaysia or Japan;
  • Strengthening the collaboration between two communities

November 26, 2022 Malaysia themed editathon was hosted in Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) by Dr. Sae Kitamura (User:さえぼー), Student Wikipedian Community in Waseda University Tokyo, and Toumon Wikipedian Club Japan (TWCJ). [2]

September 1, 2023 Taufik Rosman (User:Tofeiku) and Eugene Ormandy launched the project called Wikimedia Japan-Malaysia Friendship. [8]
September 3, 2023 Eugene Ormandy introduced the activities of Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia and Wikimedia Japan-Malaysia Friendship at the online meeting of Student Wikipedian Community in Waseda University Tokyo. [9]
September 4, 2023 Eugene Ormandy uploaded slides which introduces Wikimedia Movement in Malaysia to Wikimedia Commons. (ja) [10]

September 18, 2023 Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia had a online meeting and introduced the friendship project.
September 18, 2023 Ahmad Ali Karim (User:EmpAhmadK) made logos of the friendship project. [19][20]
September 18, 2023 Farouk Azim (User:Ultron90) made categories on Wikimedia Commons. [21][22]
September 23, 2023 Toumon Wikipedian Club Japan hosted a small Malaysia-themed editathon for the Japanese Wikipedia, while Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia hosted a small Japan-themed editathon for the Malay Wikipedia. Both editathons were co-hosted on Zoom simultaneously. [23][24][25]
October 4, 2023 Eugene Ormandy introduced Wikimedia Japan-Malaysia Friendship in his Diff post "Wikimania 2023 and Wikimedian of the Year 2023 awardees." [26]
October 7, 2023 Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia and Toumon Wikipedian Club Japan held Wiktionary Editathon. [27]
October 10, 2023 Eugene Ormandy introduced the Editathon held on September 2023 in his Diff post "Wikimeda Japan-Malaysia Friendship Editathon September 2023." [28]
October 15-21, 2023 Toumon Wikipedian Club held an online editathon. [29]
