Wikimedia Nederland/Organising events: avoiding sensory overload

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

THE RESULTS OF THIS DISCUSSION ARE NOW AVAILABLE AS A LEARNING PATTERN!

Like many other affiliates, Wikimedia Nederland hosts several events per year. We do our best to make these events an inclusive and pleasant environment for all participants.

Last summer, there was a mail thread on Wikimedia-l, about how participating in big events for some Wikimedians can lead to unpleasant sensory overload. This can happen to people with ASD, PTSD and many others. We would like hear your thoughts on how to make Wikimedia-events a pleasant environment for everyone, including people who experience sensory overload.

How to contribute[edit]

We would like to know what we can do to improve events we organise and make the events more accessible and enjoyable to all Wikimedians. For us to make improvements in events we need your input. We therefore ask you to share ideas and experiences, and discussing potential solutions. In January WMNL will review the suggestions and work out which ones we are able to implement on the short and long term.

Please go to the talk page and share your insights!
