Open Data Day Taiwan 2021 is the celebration event of the International Open Data Day in Taiwan, and in this year’s agenda, our topic to focus primarily on is “Open River Data”.

At the event, beside the Open Street Map and Wikidata workshop, we also have some special guests from Water Resources Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Soil and Water Conservation Bureau, Location Aware Sensing System community, etc. sharing their knowledge and experience with us.

Here at the Open Data Day Taiwan 2021, we welcome everyone to join. No matter you are a rookie without any previous experience or a master in the topic, as long as you are interested in the Open Data, we welcome you to come aboard and enjoy the Open Data Day with us!

And in this year’s event, not only we will have a session here in Taipei at the Mozilla Community Space, we will also have a con-call with the Taichung and Tainan session so we can all celebrate together. We sincerely hope all the friends from the mid and southern Taiwan don’t miss out this precious chance to participate the event!

10:10 - 10:30 Open Data for Water Resource This talk will share the background and development of water-related open data in Taiwan. Currently, Water Resource Agency (WRA) has published more than 200 open datasets which 100% passed the highest data quality verification on the Open Data Portal. The fundamental was Water Resource Information Sharing Portal (WRISP) established in 2005 for managing all the internal data sharing and service transactions. WRSIP currently contains 418 data services registered from 208 applications with more than 100 million transactions every year. 10:40 - 11:00 The Next Step: Cooperation Model Soil and Water Conservation is a very important topic in environment protection and conservation and it requires a lot of data to be collected and processed. After the foundation have been laid, how could we build upon is the next question. We expect that one day we could combine all kinds of geo-data together. By the Open Data Day, we could reach out to people who usually a consumer and enabling them the ability to become also a producer, generating more data in the process, discovering more possibility in the data. 11:10 - 11:30 LASS Community’s Contribution LASS not only promoted the EdiGreen project, also collected one of the biggest sensor network and open data for micro PM2.5. “Where is the purple panther” shows the grid-time data of Taiwan recent years’ air quality. River Log collect and show the water resource open data in Taiwan. And many other tool projects aim to enable our research partner. 11:40 - 12:00 Wikidata’s Application and Management Model There are lots of ways to use Open Data, to many organizations, which data to open is not merely a issue of policy but many more complex problem of responsibility; These question all contribute to the difficulty while promoting Open Data.

In this event, we will share our experience of the cooperation we have with Shin Leh Yuan Art Space and Water Resource Agency as an example to show how Wikidata can, with its unique property, solve this possible problem which might encounter while opening data to the public and how the community can take part to further improve the value.
